We had everything we needed.” Guest in  January 2025   High House is a family-friendly holiday home in a quiet location near Covehithe Beach and only five miles from the famous seaside resort of Southwold with its beach, pier and quaint town cottages. The village shop and pub are both within walking distance, and there are some gorgeous footpaths and cycling routes nearby. It's a fantastic choice for families and friends, including those with dogs, as there is lots of space inside and out, and favourite attractions like Framlingham Castle and Beccles Lido within easy reach.

High House is the perfect place to go with your kids, your extended family or your friends, for a seaside holiday on the Suffolk coast. The spacious, dog-friendly home sleeps up to 9 people in five bedrooms and is in Wrentham, within walking distance of the village shop and the Horse and Groom pub. The cottage is a stone's throw from the Benacre Nature Reserve and just two miles from the beach at Covehithe - easy enough to cycle if you prefer not to take the car.

We know that many families are on a tight budget which is why we keep prices extremely low. This is possible because we ask guests to bring their own towels and bedlinen and extras like toiletries. You also pay your own fuel. Our basic Winter prices allow for this extra expense. You will find very competitive rates and excellent value for money.

Wrentham has a playground, cafe and two pubs as well as a friendly atmosphere. As well as being close to Covehithe, it is only five miles from the seaside resort town in Southwold. The two beaches could not be more different. Covehithe is peaceful and quiet with no amenities and few visitors. There is parking about a 15-minute walk away by the church, but your effort is rewarded with a long sandy stretch that is dog-friendly all year round. Southwold is a quiet old fashioned resort with a pier, places to eat and drink and a lengthy promenade - ideal for a traditional 'bucket and spade' holiday with the kids. Both are typical of Suffolk's coast and an excellent demonstration of why this area is such a fantastic choice for a fun and relaxing holiday.

There is always something fun to do when you stay in Suffolk. Local attractions include Framlingham Castle, the East Anglia Transport Museum, and the lido at Beccles. You can take a boat trip along the River Waveney, make gin at the Adnams distillery, visit castles and historic churches, go to a music or food festival, or enjoy long walks and bike rides along the coast and through the beautiful Suffolk countryside. Nine miles north is Lowestoft, or drive half an hour south for the shops and restaurants of Aldeburgh. Please view our website for more information about local attractions.

Southwold and the surrounding area is a beautiful place to visit in any season, regardless of your age or interests. The comfortable accommodation and convenient location of High House mean that you can explore to your heart's content.

Accommodation Provides:

High House is a modern family home with lots of space indoors and outside, and accommodation over three levels.

Ground Floor:

Relaxing living room with sofas and an open fireplace. Lovely to come back to after a blustery winter walk.

Big kitchen/diner with multi-aspect windows that let in lots of natural light, and glass doors that open into the garden. The table is perfect not only for family meals but also for playing games and doing puzzles - it's the sort of place where people instinctively gather and socialise, even when it's not mealtime.

Utility room with space to hang coats and leave boots. There is a washing machine and laundry facilities.

Cloakroom with a WC and a handbasin plus more space to hang coats.

First Floor:

Master bedroom with a superking sized (6ft-wide) bed and an ensuite with a shower, WC and a handbasin. There is built-in storage and the room is big enough for the cot as well.

Second bedroom with zip link beds that can either be set up as two full-sized (3ft-wide) single beds or one superking sized bed. Please let the owners know your required layout when booking.

Outside: High House has a lawned garden with garden furniture for outdoor dining so that guests can enjoy leisurely meals outdoors in nice weather. A gate leads to the communal green shared with residents of nearby houses. There is off-street parking for one car plus one small car and unrestricted roadside parking in nearby roads.

Additional Information: In order to market High House at a very competitive price the owners request that guests bring their own sheets and towels and pay for the fuel they use. An extra child can be accommodated on a z-bed in bedroom one. A cot (no bedding), stairgate and high chair are available. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome at a small charge but please notify the owner when booking. Smoking is not permitted.
