The Lakeside Yurt is a contemporary 16-foot round yurt, on the outskirts of the pretty village of Beckford, on the Gloucestershire/Worcestershire border, in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Offering a truly unique Gloucestershire holiday home for couples, this pet-friendly abode is set in an idyllic location overlooking the owner's fishing lake, boasts a plush roll top bath and an open-plan layout. Pull up and park, then take a moment as the quiet of the countryside settles in around you. Open the door to reveal a thoughtfully arranged studio-style space where everything has been designed to flow easily. Drop your bags, kick off your shoes, and move straight into holiday mode.
The kitchen area invites relaxed, unhurried cooking, whether you are warming something simple in the combination oven or frying up breakfast on the induction hob. With the dishwasher to hand, clearing away is effortless, leaving more time to linger over meals. Settle at the dining table and enjoy eating together while the lake provides a calming backdrop through the windows, then ease across into the sitting area and sink back in front of the gas coal-effect fire. As evening draws in, turn on the radio, let the flames flicker, and enjoy the gentle quiet that surrounds this special spot. There is no television here, encouraging proper switch-off and slower evenings with a book, music, or good conversation.
When it is time to unwind fully, draw a deep bath and step into the roll-top tub, topping up the warmth and letting the day melt away. Afterwards, climb into the double bed and drift off with the soft stillness of the lakeside setting just beyond the walls. A separate external WC keeps things convenient without interrupting the calm of the main space. Step back outside whenever the mood takes you and make the most of the veranda, furnished for leisurely coffees, relaxed lunches, and evenings spent watching the light change across the water. Fire up the Kamado barbecue for laid-back outdoor dining, or light the chiminea and fire pit once the sun dips, settling in with a drink as the flames crackle nearby.
The private hot tub sits close to the yurt, perfectly placed for long soaks while looking out over the fishing lake, whether under blue skies or stars overhead. Beyond the veranda, guests are welcome to wander into the owner’s field, stretch their legs with gentle walks, or take the rowing boat out onto the lake at their own pace. Fishing is available on site, with the lake home to a variety of freshwater species, making peaceful mornings by the water a real highlight. A well-behaved dog is also welcome, meaning your four-legged companion can share in the open space and quiet surroundings.

You do expect spiders and bugs when staying somewhere like this, and normally that wouldnât bother me too much, however I wouldnât recommend this place to anyone who is uncomfortable around bugs and spiders â especially as many of the spiders were huge. We booked for 3 nights but unfortunately only stayed for 1. After pulling back the sheets we found various bugs and flies under the covers, which made us uncomfortable enough to sleep in the car instead. There were also dead cockroaches between the plates and in the bath, and when we pulled back the curtains there appeared to be lots of dead bugs there too. Itâs such a shame because the location itself is beautiful and this place could have been lovely if the accommodation had been properly checked before arrival. Some bugs and spiders are to be expected in this type of setting, but it felt rather excessive. Iâd also suggest adding some sort of netting or seal around the door, as there was a gap underneath which likely allowed many bugs inside. Another thing to note is that this place is advertised as dog friendly, however there were many large gaps in the fencing which we had to block ourselves using bins and other objects. We even had to go out and buy material to wrap around parts of the fence so our dog didnât have direct access to the lake. Our dog is trained not to stray too far, but I still couldnât properly relax because all it takes is two seconds for something to happen. If you have a small dog â or even a larger dog â I would definitely be cautious. I also want to add that the lady who owns this place is absolutely lovely and she did listen to our concerns, which we appreciated. Please take this as constructive feedback rather than negativity, as the location itself is beautiful and with a few improvements this could be an amazing stay. Iâm not usually one to complain, but I did want to warn others that if you are uncomfortable around bugs and spiders, or travelling with a dog, this may not be the place for you.

But sadly this was the worst stay so far. The yurt was so dirty. The floor was full of dirt. The bathtub had a ring of dirt with clogged hair. We basically stripped the bed and brought new bedding as there was blood and mood on the bedding. The hot tub was 28c and was to high in chlorine to even get in. We're the hot tub is now you genuinely have to climb in and out. The tree to the right blocks 80% of the sun. There was that much cobwebs and the yurt was that unclean my misses went home. Fishing is now impossible as there are to many snags. Weed is around 6ft tall so its impossible now to fish. They have otters so I doubt there will be any fish next year. Who ever looks after the yurts and lakes needs replacing asap as its got worse over the last 2 years. Im actually gutted to write this review if truth was told as this was and kinda still is my favourite place but like I said its now dated and grim and un fishable. And check in is at 16 30 and check out is 9.30? Sorry but that is so so bad. You basically miss 14 hours of your holiday. That's more then a day!! Its not hard to clean and make it more appealing. Jet wash and paint and rake the lake. Its not hard! Ill even do it for you guys for a small drink. Small effort and you would see a massive difference!
Chris
Yurt was adequate. Towels, sheets etc very clean. A quick clean of the inside and outside of cobwebs would help. Ice cube tray in freezer would be good. Location is beautiful and the variety of wildlife is amazing which makes up for the shortfalls. All in all this a unique stay but may not be for everyone.
