The small town of Kington, which is well-known as a walking destination, is located on the England/Wales border in the picturesque Welsh Marches. On the English side, there are wooded hills, calm valleys, and unspoilt Black and White villages, whereas on the Welsh side, there are the more rocky Cambrian Mountains. This peaceful, pleasant town is known for its beautiful landscape and excellent walking and cycling in the surrounding rolling hills. It also has a variety of excellent shops, taverns, and restaurants. There is lots to do further away, including pony trekking in the Black Mountains and canoeing on the Wye River. The Small Breeds Farm and Owl Centre, the nationally significant Hergest Croft Gardens, the Offa's Dyke Path and Mortimer Trail long distance footpaths, and the National Trust buildings of Croft Castle and Berrington Hall are all within easy driving distance. Just outside the village is Bradnor Hill, home to England's highest golf course. The charming town of Hay-on-Wye, with its various book shops, craft and antique shops, as well as holding the famed Hay Festival during the Spring Bank Holiday, is also within easy reach and well worth a visit. Ludlow, a nearby town known for its superb restaurants and gourmet food outlets, is close by. Hereford, with its towering Norman cathedral and famed Mappa Mundi, a 13th century cartographer's portrayal of the world, is a fantastic day trip. A lovely vacation spot for people of all ages and tastes.
