About this property

Perched spectacularly overlooking the River Severn in the picturesque Shropshire countryside, Whitmore Hall stands as an extraordinary testament to elegance and comfort, offering an impeccable retreat for up to twenty-three guests. This sprawling eight bedroom residence invites you to bask in its grandeur, creating memories that linger like the charming English countryside that surrounds it.

Built in a Gothic style to emulate a romantic castle with its battlemented parapets and mullioned windows, this 19th century home is believed to be the inspiration behind many a famous novel. If you’ve ever dreamed of dramatically draping oneself over a plush sofa in a drawing room straight out of a Merchant Ivory film or an episode of Downton Abbey, Whitmore Hall is the perfect setting for you.

Stepping into the entrance hall, guests are greeted by a timeless sense of sophistication and beauty nurtured by a panorama of landscape paintings, grandfather clocks, busts of classical figures, crystal chandeliers, elegant leather sofas and armchairs, and rare books. To the left and right are well-apportioned sitting rooms with plush sofas, a dining table, writing desk, telescope with large windows looking out onto the garden, and even a fully equipped kitchen.

Moving directly forward brings guests into the grand foyer with its red-carpeted central staircase climbing toward a high glass dome filtering pure sunlight throughout this nerve centre of the house. Ascending the stairs reveals a bevy of offshoots to various nooks, crannies, galleries and surprisingly expansive bedrooms.

Whitmore Hall’s eight opulently appointed bedrooms are each a haven exuding their own distinct charm, featuring sumptuous bedding and carefully curated decor. The master suite, a true sanctuary, boasts a king-sized four poster bed, dedicated workspace, two lounge areas, and an ensuite bathroom with tub and walk-in shower, ensures a private haven for relaxation.

The other bedrooms, scattered throughout the house in various intermingling levels, cater to a broad range of sleeping arrangements. Guests will find another bedroom ideal for young parents with its king-sized bed and fixed cot. Three more bedrooms, one with a king-sized bed, two with queen-sized beds, are ideal for couples who will love their luxurious proportions, lounge areas, and ensuite bathrooms.

Three more bedrooms on the third floor allow for maximising guests. One comes complete with double bed and three single beds. One boasts a king-sized bed in addition to three singles. While the last bedroom features a double bed and a single bed.

While guests are searching Whitmore Hall’s long hallways and unexpected stairways for their assorted bedrooms, you’re sure to stumble upon some of the home’s extraordinary features, including a cinema room, a games room with full billiards table, and even a gym and fitness centre complete with sauna and showers.

The enchantment continues outside, where meticulously landscaped gardens and a private terrace offer an idyllic backdrop for al fresco dining or simply basking in the serenity of the surroundings. Whitmore Hall seamlessly blends historic charm with modern comforts, providing an unforgettable experience for those seeking an exceptional retreat in the heart of Shropshire.

Whitmore Hall is approached through a private gated entrance which winds up to the home’s extravagant arched entranceway. Situated amidst 10 glorious acres of gardens and parkland, the residence offers guests the opportunity to enjoy sprawling lawns, well-maintained gardens, vineyards, and all with stunning views of the River Severn. In the grounds’ southern corner guests will discover a beautiful wooden pergola, the perfect setting for al fresco dining and entertaining.

While Whitmore Hall is a rural property, it is by no means remote. The quaint village of Norton is close at hand, and the pretty market town of Bridgnorth (15-minute drive) and Telford (17-minute drive) are within easy reach.

Bridgnorth itself is a delightful port of call. Not only does the town boast a fantastic golf course for anyone who feels like swinging the clubs, but it is also brimming with boutique shops, lovely pubs, supermarkets, and even historical landmarks such as the Bridgnorth Castle and Gardens.

Natural wonders are also in the area, including Astbury Falls just south of Bridgnorth, easily reachable by foot or car.
