Encompassed by gorgeous gardens, with sitting areas dotted around and plenty of walking and cycling opportunities nearby, this cottage makes the perfect escape for a family or group of friends to unwind among luscious greenery and character-filled architecture. Elm Cottage is an eco-house- B energy rated, unusual in an old property. It enjoys a high level of comfort in winter and summer, without the usual ups and downs of country living, due to the attention to the contemporary construction of the home. Arriving at the cottage there is plenty of parking so you can easily unload your bags and begin your break. A woodburning stove in its original inglenook fireplace, invites you in to take your shoes off and snuggle up with your loved ones in the living/dining room. When dinner is ready, gather at the dining table here, or make your way through to the kitchen/diner and keep the chef of your group company while they add the finishing touches. The kitchen is well-equipped with an electric hob and an AGA, while boasting yet more original features, adding plenty of charm to the property. Relax with a cup of tea in the conservatory after dinner, or perhaps soak up the last of the summer sun in the garden. The outdoor space at the property has a stunning quality, with the meadows surrounding it, mature shrubbery, and the sounds of country life, it will be hard to resist spending all of your time wandering the lovely space. When it is time to rest, three bedrooms offer somewhere to lay your head, including a king-size and a double, which have direct access to the multilevel decking, and a final double with exposed beams. Completing the cottage is a family bathroom with a bath and shower over, so you can soak away the day, or wake up with a quick rinse. Venture out and explore your surroundings on foot or by bike; if you're looking for a historic town with plenty of things to see and do, Oswestry in Shropshire is the perfect place. With its own castle, railway museum and town museum, there's plenty to keep you occupied, as well as Oswald's Well which is popular among tourists and said to have healing properties. Oswestry hosts a fine selection of independent shops; take in an exhibition at the Willow Art gallery and enjoy lunch at the same time. And don’t miss a good browse at the renowned Booka bookstore, as well as morning coffee or high tea in their popular cafe, catching up on the latest publications. Walking from Elm Cottage, climb up to the famous Old Racecourse onto Offa’s Dyke footpath and take in the stunning views across the Berwyn mountains of Wales to the West, and the Shropshire plain to the East. Wander or ride down into Candy or Cynynion woods, to enjoy river side rambles or mountain views among spectacular wildflower displays. In the evening, stroll down to Pen y Dyffryn Country house Hotel just a short stroll down the road to enjoy a fine dining experience with a special guest discount. It’s a charming cottage with a big garden full of apple trees, of different varieties, it’s steep and tiered but well worth a wander round, our dog loved it. We also enjoyed trying out cooking in the ESSE (like an AGA), we were impressed. The area is pretty and nice walks, but personally I didn’t like walking along the road as it was narrow, no pavement and the cars were fast. So we did drive everywhere. Fantastic welcome pack of fresh milk and butter, bread and cake from a local woman and a bottle of wine too. The bread and cake were absolutely delicious. Can also recommend Gilliam’s deli and Niche patisserie in Oswestry We had a lovely time in the cottage.

Homely and comfortable with all the required facilities. The dogs loved it, as the garden is huge and secure. Great walks within a 2 minute ride and the owner provided with useful information for other walks in the area. Would love to go back.

The welcome basket provided was delightful! Would love to visit again in the future
