About this property

54 Bridge Street is a beautiful late 17th century house is set over three floors and is an absolute gem, set in the market town of Brigg. Throughout this grand home there is evidence of its great age yet its character perfectly compliments the 21st century elegance and comfort offered throughout. The house would have been built for a man of substance, possibly a merchant, as trade and commerce expanded greatly during this time increasing England's wealth. The house offers five sumptuous and elegant bedrooms with their own distinct style, three of which are en-suite and there is an indulgent family bathroom and a ground-floor cloakroom. Each of the ground floor sitting rooms have the facility for a roaring fire, one of which is housed in an original range which would have been regularly black leaded in its day by the maid! Nowadays the range provides a comfortable place to curl up in comfort with a good book. The original windows provide ever changing framed pictures of the charming garden and the historic high street. For languorous dinner parties the formal dining room opens up to the garden through French windows, just the ticket for after dinner drinks on the patio. Brigg is a historic market town offering two markets, a farmers and a street market, and provides a fantastic base for exploring the surrounding countryside with opportunities for walking, golf, cycling and rowing, and historic towns and villages to explore. Give the chef of the group a break from cooking one evening and head out to a local restaurant; Yellowbelly Pizza Co is just across the bridge near the cottage and offers dine-in and takeaway, while The Loft Restaurant offers a traditional menu in a homely setting. The sandy beach at Cleethorpes and the beautiful city of Lincoln are both just over a 20 mile drive from the house. Cleethorpes is home to the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway, making for a fun-filled day out with the children, while the city of Lincoln offers an abundance of shops, pubs, restaurants and cafés to discover along with its magnificent cathedral. The verdant and undulating Lincolnshire Wolds provide great opportunities for walking and cycling, with Hall Farm Park resting on the fringes, ideal for another afternoon out with the family. Railway enthusiasts can enjoy a day at village of Barnetby, known for being a mecca for train-spotters, before heading back to the cottage for some well-earned rest. 54 Bridge Street is a fantastic holiday home and ideal for break away at any time of year.

The historic market town of Brigg is a small market town in North Lincolnshire. The town hosts two regular markets; a farmers and a street market as well as a significant number of listed buildings in the town centre dating back to the late 1700s or early 1800s. The old town has been designated as a Conservation Area, while the rolling landscape and picturesque villages prove a magnet for cyclists, walkers and wildlife lovers, with the Viking Way many quiet trails and country lanes to explore.

The cottage has a lot of character, was well furnished, very comfortable for 6 adults and 3 children. Kitchen was well stocked, lots of kit in the house to make it feel like a home away from home. The garden was excellent, although we didn't get to spend too much time out there due to rain. The instructions were clear and the fireplace is just stunning in the larger sitting room for a fantastic social space. Overall much recommended for the location and facilities. The floorboards are creaky, have to be careful with the ensuite bathrooms, there are instructions - but still - water can leak if you are not very careful. Loft conversion bathroom has a small sink, water splashes over. The location could get busy on some nights as its close to the town centre with many pubs around.

However, on this occasion we were very disappointed at the poor level of cleanliness especially in the kitchen. The oven was filthy and covered inside with grease and fat. It clearly hadn't been cleaned. The oven dishes were the same, so bad that I went out and bought my own oven dish to cook a Turkey for the family as I didn't want to use the dirty ones on offer. The saucepans were as bad, two contained pieces of rice which hadn't been cleaned properly. (I am more than happy to provide photos to the owners of the property) The bathrooms were all clean and the bedrooms too except for one of the beds were my wife found a tissue under the duvet cover....... if the level of cleanliness could be brought back to the standard we previously experienced then we would have no criticism. The house is large and spacious with room for our family and it was great to catch up with our elderly parents. Will we stay again? Probably not after this.

It was easy to find and well placed within the town to give easy access to shops, pubs and restaurants. The property was clean, spacious and comfortable with plenty of room for the seven of us. The kitchen is well equipped and there are plenty of bathrooms for guests. Despite being near the centre of town, the house is very quiet at night with very little noise from the pub or pedestrians. It has a lovely garden to the rear which would be safe for children. Parking at the rear is limited and wouldn't suit more than four average size cars. My only gripe was the lack of spare toilet rolls but, given that there are numerous shops close by, it wasn't a problem to get some! I would certainly visit again, and indeed we probably will in the future. Thanks for a lovely stay.
