The area is popular with walkers and cyclists, with the Tour de Yorkshire passing close by, as well as the Tour de France back in 2014. There is an unlimited amount of natural beauty right on the doorstep of this beautifully designed cottage, which has been converted from an old farm building. Wensleydale Railway is a big attraction in the area, with its tracks snaking from the lowland Vale of Mowbray to the upland splendour of the famous Yorkshire Dales. This rural railway line passes through market towns, small villages, woodland and farmland, offering a great day out in some of England’s most beautiful countryside in winter. There is so much to do in the area. Nature lovers can enjoy walks in both the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors National Parks, taking in beautiful countryside, from high peaks with breathtaking views to waterfalls and rivers. A little further north, the picturesque area of County Durham is also easily accessible, where you can visit the very popular market town of Barnard Castle, home to the Bowes Museum. Or travel south to the spa town of Harrogate, with its Roman baths and health spa, or the historic city of York, both of which make excellent days out.
There are plenty of things to do for all the family, such as The Forbidden Corner, which is a unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, follies and surprises, created in a 4-acre garden in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Visit Big Sheep and Little Cow Farm, a family-run farm visitor centre in Bedale, which is a unique hands on farm experience for children and adults. For an exhilarating day out there’s Flamingo Land and Lightwater Valley theme parks, or if you prefer historic sights, you’ll love Mount Grace Priory set amid woodland in North Yorkshire. This unusual monastery is the best preserved Carthusian priory in Britain. The old city of Ripon is filled with shops, cafés, restaurants, and pubs, and also boasts many historical buildings and museums, including Ripon Cathedral, the Wakeman’s House, Studley Royal, Fountains Abbey and Ripon Spa Gardens. Beach 40 miles. Farm shop 400 yards, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.

The cottage was lovely. The use of space is excellent, making this seem larger than the photos. It was well equipped. The host was very friendly and helpful - both in person and by text. A great place to stay.
