Guests say

Dairy House is a charming, spacious, and well-equipped cottage in a peaceful village setting, ideal for exploring the North York Moors and coast. Guests consistently praise its cleanliness, comfort, and thoughtful touches, with many highlighting the warm welcome and excellent communication from the owners. The cottage is particularly well-suited for families, dog owners, and those with mobility needs. Minor suggestions include improvements to the garden fencing, some furnishings, and the upstairs shower, but these do not detract from the overwhelmingly positive experience.

Cleanliness is frequently praised, with multiple guests describing the property as spotlessly clean, tidy, and well-kept. Only one minor mention of a dated single bedroom, but no significant cleanliness issues were raised.

The location is highly rated, with guests appreciating the quiet village, proximity to Pickering, local walks, and easy access to the North York Moors and coast. The nearby pub and scenic surroundings are also highlighted as positives.

Guests find the cottage cosy, spacious, and comfortable, with special mention of the beds, lounge, and peaceful setting. A few minor points were raised about the dining table, sofa cushions, and upstairs headroom for tall guests, but overall comfort is excellent.

The cottage is described as very well equipped, with a well-stocked kitchen, utility/boot room, log fire, and amenities for families and dog owners. Suggestions for improvement include a more enclosed garden, a better upstairs shower, and a few extra kitchen basics.

Guests frequently mention thoughtful touches such as welcome gifts (flowers, wine, vouchers), a toy box for children, and proactive communication from the owners. Please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

A quality sympathetic conversion of an old stone farm building, resulting in an individual holiday home of great character and comfort.

With an exceptionally high standard of furnishing and equipment, this cottage nestles high on the moors in a quiet National Park village above Newtondale where the steam trains whistle below.

In the 19th century, the property housed a horse driven threshing machine and more recently it became a dairy and features a unique stone fireplace, along with massive timber beams, which may have come from oaks in Newtondale or from ships broken up at Whitby.

Ecologically aware, Dairy House offers spacious accommodation over two floors with three bedrooms, a bathroom and a shower room, and provides a light and airy feel, whilst it also feels cosy in winter.

Footpaths nearby wander through wild flower pastures, beautiful woodlands and on to the moors. Cyclists can enjoy gentle meanders or challenging banks and a few miles away, Dalby Forest offers mountain biking trails for all levels.

Enjoy a steam railway ride, which takes you up the valley and across the moors to the coast - one of the most spectacular railway journeys in Britain.

A delightful cottage offering peace and tranquillity.

The unspoiled village of Newton-upon-Rawcliffe is on the southern fringe of the North York Moors National Park and is a typical English village, with old stone cottages and farms clustered around the village green and duck pond. The area has an abundance of wildlife and the countryside is varied and offers wonderful walking and touring opportunities. Amongst the many attractions in the area are the majestic abbeys of Byland and Rievaulx, the town of York and the magnificent Castle Howard. The nearby historic market town of Pickering is home to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, England's longest steam railway, and has a variety of shops, art galleries and eateries. With its many activities and attractions, this is a fabulous area for a family holiday.

The front room struggled to keep warm without wood burner which was something I didn’t want to make, clean and buy fuel for when on holiday. Super property for warmer months.

It's a bit of a quirky cottage. Bigger than we expected and extremely well equipped. The log fire's surround is definitely a talking piece. All the wooden beams give it a lot of character. One of the nicest cottages we have stayed in.

Very comfortable and homely with a really well equipped kitchen. We really wanted to light the log burner but the property is so well insulated that it would have been too hot. We especially loved the lounge, so cosy and full of character.
