Charming cottages situated in a scenic holiday location, which form an ideal base from which to explore the stunning scenery of the North Yorkshire Coast..."

The six cottages at Killerby Old Hall are ideal for a countryside holiday whilst being less than 2 miles from the beach of Cayton Bay. The owners live on-site and guests can enjoy the countryside or relax in the indoor heated swimming pool. The accommodation ranges from the Dovecote sleeping 14 in period splendour, through to cosy Chestnut Cottage which sleeps 6. Set in a pretty courtyard, each cottage is different yet has its own sitting-out area with patio furniture and four of the cottages have private hot tubs.

Killerby Old Hall is situated between the coastal resorts of family friendly Filey, with its cobble landing and pretty promenade, and Scarborough, with its vibrant South Bay and naturally picturesque North Bay, located on part of Britain’s heritage coast. The Stephen Joseph Theatre, famed throughout the county, puts on a number of Alan Ayckbourn productions. To the north, across the stunning North Yorkshire Moors, lies the port of Whitby; famous for its connections to Captain James Cook and Dracula. Robin Hood’s Bay, a former fishing village with a smugglers past, has quaint streets which lead visitors to a small, sandy cove and rock pools. Heading inland, find the historic market town of Pickering, where the famous North Yorkshire Moors steam train begins its journey. Access Dalby Forest through the attractive village of Thornton-le-Dale and be sure to stop for an ice cream. The forest offers a range of activities including mountain bike tracks, or for those feeling adventurous there is Go Ape. It is also a popular picnic destination which is surrounded by walks that the whole family can enjoy. Travel a little further afield to Castle Howard with its stunning house and grounds. The ancient, Roman walled city of York sits just an hour up the A64, a famously haunted city with many attractions such as the railway museum, river trips and excellent shopping. To the south along the coast, the Cleveland Way leads to dramatic Flamborough Head and the Bempton rspb Sanctuary. The village of Cayton is a 500 yard stroll, with two local pubs, post office and shop. Full amenities are just over 4 miles away in Scarborough and fishing is available nearby. Beach 1 mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

The cottage was lovely and cosy finished to a high standard set in a beautiful setting . Really enjoyed the use of the indoor swimming pool . Everything you needed was provided for . The only issue was the swimming pool shower it got extremely hot and it was very difficult to set it to a comfortable setting .

Feel bad writing this but have to be honest. I have been asked to review the cottage not the site. Cottage lacked attention to detail. We go to many self catering properties and get the impression that the managers have never done so or would know what the competition offers. Kitchen basically equipped, oven rusty with unreadable dials. Bathroom _ no slip mat for shower and no floor mat so anyone using bathroom after another has used the shower has wet feet. Shower itself full of limescale and faulty controls. Main bedroom _ no bedside lamps, had to ask. Living room _ no lamps just main lights, no books or games that most others provide, no starter pack of logs as advertised _ again had to ask. Good job we had own matches. Tv very dated and can't received catch up channels so you have to watch live only. As self caterers we expect to provide most things but never have we had to buy kitchen and bathroom cleaner before. This is a basic if you want people to care for the place. Tea bags and biscuits provided for arrival but no coffee, suger and the milk was packet uht that you get in a cheap b and b. Most cottages provide a decent drink on arrival after travelling before you go back out to do shopping. Prosecco nice to receive. Can't comment on what the other cottages are like and it could be that this is the poor cousin and not worth the high prices. Saun was helpful on the weekend but no one around during the week. The site itself is quiet and convenient. It was a bonus being able to book the pool and we used it 3 times but even here upgrades are needed. I'm not usually a negative person but wanted to give detail in the hope it may help. With upgrades and more attention to detail, this place could be amazing but at the moment it doesn't stand up to completion for the price.

We really enjoyed our stay at kilerby Hall, the cottage was clean, tidy and very spacious. The opportunity to book an hour slot for a private use of the pool was a nice touch. The site is well kept and tidy. We didn't get chance to use the restaurant, so can't comment on that. Looking at booking there again.
