Guests say

Guests have had a delightful stay at Captains Quarters, praising its spaciousness, well-equipped nature, and suitability for large groups and families. The addition of a pool table is frequently mentioned as a highlight, and the property's location is appreciated for its convenience to local amenities and beauty of the harbour. The host's responsiveness and friendliness are also commended.

There are no specific comments regarding cleanliness, so it is not possible to provide a score for this category.

The property is well-liked for its convenient location near local bars, shops, and a bus stop. The beautiful harbour and village add to the appeal, despite the mention of a challenging hill.

Guests find the accommodation comfortable, with special mentions of very comfortable beds and spacious rooms, making it perfect for family getaways and large groups.

The property is well-equipped and the pool table is a hit, especially on damp days. However, a negative comment about an oven not reaching the correct temperature and the coin meter for electricity suggests some maintenance issues.

The host's thoughtfulness is evident from the provision of towels and checking in on guests' needs. Lovely gifts for grandchildren on arrival are mentioned, although it should be noted that such gestures are at the host's discretion and not guaranteed.

Situated at Staithes, near Whitby, these former World War I army bunkers are in an idyllic position close to the countryside and sea. Four of the barracks have been ingeniously and tastefully transformed to provide good quality accommodation retaining much rustic character and charm. The remaining four lodges retain their near original condition as a visual reminder of their former function. Each refurbished lodge has the added advantage of free parking, an outdoor sitting area and bike parking racks.

Situated just off the Cleveland Way, there are many fine moorland and cliff top walks. There is a golf course and driving range in Brotton, 6¾ miles away, and at Scaling Reservoir, 7¼ miles, there is sailing and fishing. There is a leisure centre 2 miles down the road and a 2-minute stroll down the cobbled street brings you to the centre of the picturesque fishing village with its small harbour nestling beneath rugged cliffs. Step back in time and walk the quaint narrow passages, as Captain James Cook himself must have done. Here in Staithes there are village shops, pubs, cafés and a restaurant, and in 2020 the village was featured on the BBC programme ’Gone Christmas Fishing’ with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. Why not travel on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express (the North Yorkshire Moors Railway) through ’Heartbeat’ country, or visit Whitby and its famous abbey which is 11 miles away.

Open planned kitchen/diner recently refurbished 2022.

Please note: As the four lodges are in close proximity to one another, they could be booked for groups of up to 24 guests. Additional en-suite rooms available on site, on request with owner.. Party of 12 stayed for 2 nights. Captains quarters is conveniently placed for local bars and shops and not far from bus stop to visit further afield. We loved staying there, plenty of room and the place is s very well equipped we had everything we needed. Host even have us towels on the day and came back the next day to see if we needed anything, Sarah was just on the end of the phone if I needed to ask questions. The pool table was a big hit and dogs were catered for and happy and comfortable. We will be visiting again.

A lovely 'quirky' accommodation. Great for families and very spacious with an excellent pool room - which was a Godsend on damp days. The village and harbour is beautiful - but the hill is a 'killer' on the way back - tip - get the kids to carry as much as possible!!Highly recommended!

We had a week at the captains quarters and it was fantastic, we didn’t want to come home. There were several places within a 20 minute drive that had loads of things to do for us all and the harbour was breath taking. Would definitely book to go again.
