Lilac Studio offers a cosy base in a peaceful village near York, with convenient access to local amenities and attractions. Guests appreciated the quiet location, comfortable beds, and the relaxing hot tub. Some thoughtful touches, such as cookies on arrival, were noted by several visitors. However, there were mixed experiences regarding cleanliness and maintenance, with some guests reporting issues such as mould, damp smells, and occasional problems with the hot tub and appliances. Overall, the property provides good value and a pleasant stay for many, especially those seeking a quiet retreat close to York.
Reviews are mixed, with several guests praising the cleanliness, while others reported significant issues such as mould, damp smells, stained bedding, and unclean kitchen surfaces. Some guests found the property spotless, but recurring mentions of mould and maintenance concerns lower the overall perception of cleanliness.

Many guests found the cottage comfortable, with good beds and a quiet atmosphere. However, some mentioned issues such as dated decor, musty smells, and a mattress that may need replacing. Overall, comfort is generally positive but with room for improvement.
Facilities such as the hot tub, Wi-Fi, and kitchen are appreciated by guests, but there are repeated reports of maintenance issues, including hot tub cleanliness, electrical problems, and faulty appliances. While many enjoyed the amenities, inconsistent upkeep affected the overall experience.
Several guests mentioned thoughtful touches like cookies on arrival and well-stocked essentials, which added to their enjoyment. However, these gestures are not guaranteed for every stay.

Well what can I say about lilac studio. It doesn't let me leave photos, what a shame, youll find them on trustapilot. I'd run for the hills. I've never seen such a disgusting property, the pillows in the bedroom are stained with sweat, electrical boxes hanging off the wall and smashed. Kitchen...probably wants setting a light. Hair in the freezer, hair stuck to the tiles, pans that have remainders of food attached from previous people, the oven dish, absolutely mank! Moldy kitchen tops, the list is endless. I got bites on my legs from the sofa, only been sat on it 30mins, before I decided to book another b&b elsewhere as I didn't get the memo of bring your own hazmat suit. Hot tub area is shabby, weeds growing through the decking and looks like it got installed 20 year ago and then left to ruin. Called the caretaker/manager sue, but got told I had to wait as she was getting served in tenerife, and that was obviously more important! When told I wasn't happy about the property, I got the response I'm not bothered I'm on holiday. Great customer service! Rang the owner Richard, he was just as much as a delight, wanted me to wait in all day the following day until 2pm as he was too busy to come and have a look at what we weren't happy about, and what I'd propose him to do about it. Absolute melt ! Got told if I wasn't happy to go home and no refund would be possible from himself. What a lovely chap. So if you fancy a few days away and fancy getting bites all over you, breathing in the foisty smell in the air and sweaty pillows, then this is the place for you, or after you've worked hard for your money for your holiday away and expect a clean environment and value for money to relax then look elsewhere.. needs condemning lilac studios.

we had a week stay, my husband was working in the area and I was working from the cottage. Had all the facilities we needed. Good Wi-fi, good cooking facilities, 2 good sized bedrooms with comfy beds. The hot tub was very welcome at the end of the day. Very quiet. Smart TV. The Wenlock Arms is a 7 minute walk and serves great food. York Marina with the Waterside restaurant and the Riverside Cafe and restaurant are 10 minutes drive. York centre is about 20 minutes drive, there are buses Mon - Sat... The Sanghthai restaurant in Escrick is 7 minutes drive and fabulous. Great location for exploring the surrounding areas if you don't want to go into York centre.
