Grade II Listed, Baker’s Cottage dates back to the 17th century and sits in the heart of the pretty village of Hotham near Beverley, Market Weighton and Pocklington, the gateway to the Yorkshire Wolds. It’s a perfect base for families or a group of friends. The cottage can sleep up to six people and retains many of its original features. It’s ideally placed to explore the network of beautiful walks and miles of cycle routes.
The spacious kitchen and rear hall feature original York stone-flagged floors, leading you to the large country-style kitchen/dining area, which offers lovely views across the garden. The living room, up one step (with grab), features deep sofas where you can relax and watch your favourite movie. To the front of the property is a double bedroom up one step from the kitchen (with grab). This bedroom offers lovely views of the pretty cottage garden and planted border in front of the bedroom. A small shower room with a toilet and narrow hand basin lies in between the sitting room and bedroom. On the first floor, there are two bedrooms and a bathroom with a free-standing slipper bath and a separate shower. Further down the hall is the large master bedroom with its own dressing. With vaulted ceilings throughout, original wooden floors and hand-painted murals adorning the hallway, master bedroom walls, and bath, the upstairs of this cottage is truly unique. Baker’s Cottage offers gardens to the front and rear, table for six and a bench at the front of the property, ideal for enjoying an al fresco breakfast or relaxing in the afternoon sun. At the rear there’s a yoga platform, so bring your workout mats with you and enjoy the tranquillity. If you are cyclists, there’s an outdoor store to put your bikes and at the side of the cottage, there’s space to park your car off the road. (Additional on street parking at the front of the cottage).
Within a short drive of the cottage is the market town of Market Weighton, or you can head for Beverley or Pocklington to shop for all your fresh food, explore the many independent shops or simply enjoy morning coffee and cake. There’s an abundance of restaurants in Beverley to meet every taste. Both Hull and York are within a short drive, where you can explore many museums, theatres and centuries of history. For those of you who enjoy horse racing, Beverley and York have excellent courses providing flat racing. The North Cave Wetlands Nature Reserve is only a mile away and is a Yorkshire Wildlife Trust site with a fantastic array of wetland and migrating birds, as well as lots of other wildlife. Lovely quirky cottage in a rural setting. Absolutely fabulous pub very close - wonderful staff and food.Only downsides of the cottage were the downstairs bathroom is very small and there is no lid on the toilet seat so you have to be very careful not to drop anything in the toilet. Also only half of the cottage windows opened which was a nuisance as it was very hot when we visited.Would return to the cottage but I would make sure that I took fresh milk with me as none is supplied and there is no local shop.

Very cute cottage.Deceptively big inside, with superb kitchen/dining area, big lounge with plenty of seating for 6 or even 8 people.Bedrooms all a very good size.Downstairs bathroom is tiny and cramped unfortunately with nowhere to put even a toothbrush.Upstairs very comfortable spacey though with a big bathroom.Outside space in itself is great with two patio areas, beautiful lawn and parking.Sadly the only seating provided outside was a dining set facing the front/main road, with only a table round the back - no chairs, loungers, cushions...nothing!Easy parking onsite, but a (to non-dog owners) weird fence prohibits you from the shortest route to the car and makes you go all the way round the house when coming and leaving (owner wants you to use back door for some reason).Anyway, all minor details and we just obliged.Location is good. Quiet and a bit set back from the road (only a village, so hardly any traffic anyway). We only used the pub for drinks, but apparently the food is superb.Unfortunately not even a village shop, so you always have to use the car.Easy access to York, Hull, Beverley and other surrounding area.Overall a very pleasant cottage and we had a relaxing week.
