Guests appreciate the quiet surroundings, local pub, and the cottage's well-equipped nature, making it a favoured choice for a peaceful holiday.

Guests consistently describe the cottage as clean and tidy, indicating high standards of cleanliness. There are no significant complaints regarding this aspect, suggesting that the property is well-maintained.

The location is highly praised for its beauty, tranquillity, and proximity to local attractions and walking routes. The village's charm and the convenience of a great local pub contribute to the positive feedback.

The majority of guests find the cottage cosy and comfortable, with a warm atmosphere and a quiet environment conducive to relaxation. A few minor comments about bed size and pillow comfort slightly affect the score.

Facilities are generally well-regarded, with the cottage being equipped for guests' needs. However, some feedback suggests room for improvement in Wi-Fi reliability, mobile reception, and minor kitchen and bathroom enhancements.

While guests mention a warm welcome and a bottle of wine, there is insufficient information to assess the consistency of thoughtful gestures such as gifts, and therefore a score cannot be provided.

About this property

A detached 18th century, stone-built former stable, set next to the owner's home in a quiet corner of the delightful village of Lastingham. Lovingly restored, decorated and furnished, the property has been finished to a high standard, and provides first-class holiday accommodation. The accommodation is all ground floor, and the lovely open-plan living area has French doors leading to a patio area overlooking the village stream. A great base from which to explore the area, the property is within the Moors National Park, and Whitby, the famous coastline and the pretty villages and market towns of the region are within easy reach.

The tiny village of Lastingham is a quiet haven on the edge of the North York Moors with beautiful countryside all around it. The best known building in the village is the Crypt Church of St Mary with its ancient crypt. St Cedd founded a monastery in Lastingham in the 7th Century, but it was destroyed by the Danes in the 9th Century. Pickering is seven miles away and is home to The Beck Isle Museum, which is housed in a handsome Regency property near the centre of the town. Other attractions in the town include The North Yorks Moors Steam Railway. With many castles, historic houses, abbeys, churches and other heritage sites, along with the glorious surrounding countryside, this is a tremendous base for a memorable holiday.

The surroundings were in a small, charming community, well away from the hustle and bustle.

We slept well as it was dark and quiet at night. The food at the Blacksmith's Arms was excellent and we were looked after very well there by their efficient and welcoming staff.

The owner was extremely helpful and the cottage, while not luxurious, is comfortable and cosy, with everything needed for a good holiday. It is well-placed for visits to places of interest - we went to York, Scarborough and Whitby, as well as various stately homes, castles and abbeys, all within an hour's drive. Definitely recommend!
