Sunny Cottage in York receives high praise for its cleanliness, well-equipped kitchen, and peaceful village location. Guests appreciate the comfortable, homely atmosphere, private garden, and proximity to local amenities such as a pub and bakery. The cottage is ideal for families and those seeking a relaxing Yorkshire getaway. While most reviews are very positive, a few guests noted issues with the downstairs shower room radiator and mattress comfort, but these did not detract significantly from their overall experience.
Multiple guests mention the cottage is immaculate, beautifully clean, and maintained to a high standard, with no evidence of previous pets. Only one review notes a damp smell in the sitting room, but this appears to be an isolated comment.
The location is consistently praised for its quiet, village setting, excellent access to local attractions, and proximity to amenities like a pub, bakery, and Castle Howard. Guests found it ideal for exploring North Yorkshire.
Most guests found the cottage comfortable and cosy, with a relaxing atmosphere and good-sized rooms. However, one review highlighted an uncomfortable mattress and a cold sitting room, which slightly lowers the score.
The cottage is described as very well equipped, with everything needed for cooking and relaxing. Some minor maintenance issues were noted, such as a non-functioning radiator and a suggestion for a grab rail by the steps. Lack of an EV charge point was also mentioned.
Guests appreciated thoughtful touches such as tea and milk on arrival and the owners' attention to detail. Please note that such gifts or extras are not guaranteed for every stay.

This is a great cottage! The cottage it in a lovely quite village with great road links to local attractions and large towns. The cottage is very cosy and well equipped. It had everything we needed. The inside is comfortable and a good size. The outside space is good for sitting out with very little passing traffic or other noise. There is a great pub/restaurant in the village as well as a deli selling breakfast items, lunches and a good selection of cakes and coffees. We were a family of 4 and it was the perfect size. It also welcomes dogs.Would highly recommend and we would stay again.

We have stayed at Sunny Cottage a few times and it is always immaculate and beautifully clean. The cottage has immense character with a pretty 'sunny garden in the middle of the village. The Crown & Cushion is a great pub for a drink and to eat. There is also a village tea room that does wonderful breakfast etc... if you are feeling lazy. Castle Howard is a few minutes drive away and easily walkable as well. Definitely one of the best cottage we have stayed at.

On arrival the property was very cold and the sitting room smelt of damp. The downstairs shower room radiator did not function making it impossible to use the shower. Looking back at other comments it appears to be an ongoing issue which needs fixing.I am partially disabled which prevents me from getting in and out of a bath easily, this made my stay difficult. The double bed also needs the mattress replacing it has a large dip on the left side looking up to the headboard. This is clearly visible. Again making sleeping very uncomfortable. These 2 issues I feel let down what otherwise is a pleasant. property
