Riverside is set in the peaceful village of Kilmelford, this detached holiday home is in an ideal location for exploring the west coast of Scotland. The village boasts a pub, café, shop and post office. Kilmelford Yacht Haven allows guests the opportunity to bring their own boats and yachts and kayaks. Nearby Oban offers a more extensive range of services with good shopping, a leisure centre, cinema and a selection of good seafood restaurants. From Oban catch a ferry to the Inner Hebrides, including Mull, Iona and Staffa, or head south to Kennacraig for a ferry to Islay and Gigha. The area is steeped in history, and rich in archaeological and historical remains. Kilmartin Glen has at least 350 ancient monuments, of which 150 are prehistoric. Explore the Crinan Canal, Knapdale National Scenic Area, or head to the Kintyre Peninsula with white sandy beaches and a rugged coastline. The area has an abundance of wildlife with porpoise, dolphins, minke whales and basking sharks often seen. Bird watching highlights include sea eagles, golden eagles and puffins, while otters, seals, and deer can also be spotted. Close by there are plenty of walks and outdoor activities with horse riding, fishing, cycling, golf and a variety of watersports available. The washer didn’t work, blown window in lounge , with a huge hedge outside made it dark, conservatory outside door damage on outside was permanent locked no key , the roof leaked when raining , foisty smell so couldn’t use the conservatory at all really, all the mattresses were hard would benefit from toppers not just protectors, other than that kitchen was great as were the bathrooms , bedding and towels good and clean but attention to detail on other aspects need looking at ,log burner great but no starter kit and no info where to purchase any , storage heaters not much good , other than that had a good week

Good base for touring the area with plenty to do and see. The cottage, while clean and comfortable, could do with a bit of attention - some bedside lamps would help, plus an upgrade to a smart TV (just a handful of freeview channels available and very poor reception on those) Outside, the garden is very nice to sit around, with lots of birdsong and a delightful stream flowing past one side, though again it could do with a bit of a makeover. All in all, however, we had a lovely holiday. The whole area is absolutely gorgeous and, despite being there for two weeks, we just couldn't fit it all in!

Unfortunately the hotel was closed for refurbishment - and the west coast weather was very cold and wet - but we survived and visited various places from Ardfern to Arduaine Gardens to Oban by car.
