Sunnyside Cottage offers a cosy and comfortable stay in a peaceful village setting, making it an excellent base for exploring the Galloway area. Guests frequently praise the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and the warm, welcoming atmosphere. Many appreciated the thoughtful welcome packs and friendly host. While the majority of stays were positive, some guests noted issues with cleanliness and maintenance, particularly regarding the uneven flooring at the entrance and occasional cleaning lapses. Despite these concerns, most visitors enjoyed their time and would consider returning.
Most guests found the cottage clean and tidy, but several reviews highlighted lapses in cleaning standards, with a few reporting significant issues such as dirty kitchenware and bathrooms. The majority of feedback was positive, but the negative experiences lower the overall impression.
The location is widely praised for its tranquillity and proximity to local attractions, walks, and the Galloway Forest Park. Guests appreciated the peaceful village atmosphere and found it ideal for exploring the surrounding area.
Guests consistently mention comfortable beds, a cosy atmosphere, and effective heating. The cottage is described as spacious for two and provides a restful environment, though a few noted minor issues such as low seating.
The cottage is well-equipped, especially the kitchen, but recurring concerns about maintenance—particularly the uneven entrance flooring and occasional issues with the shower—were noted. Some guests also suggested improvements to the outdoor space.
Many guests appreciated the welcome packs, including wine, biscuits, and milk, as well as festive touches like a Christmas tree. Please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

We’ve stayed at Sunnyside a few times now. It’s a nice little cottage in the heart of the village. It’s a great location for exploring the area. The village is lovely and quiet and the owners are very kind and helpful.

I am writing this review to warn future guests about severe safety and hygiene issues at this property. Upon arrival, we discovered a highly unsafe, damaged floor right at the entrance. After researching local guest logs, we discovered this structural issue has been reported for over six months, yet the cottage company continues to let the property out without undertaking remedial work. The cleanliness of the cottage was completely unacceptable. We had to spend our first two hours cleaning just to make the space habitable. The hygiene issues included:Kitchen: Filthy condition, with old food left on the grill pan.Crockery: Dirty dishes put away inside the cupboards.Waste: Active mold growing inside the kitchen rubbish bin.Bathroom: Human excrement left on the toilet brush. It is highly irresponsible for the rental agency to rent out a property with known structural safety hazards and zero cleaning standards. Avoid this property. The cottage itself is in a great location, and thankfully the bedding had been changed and was clean. Nice touch that a bottle of wine was left but did not make up for the general state of the accommodation.
