Guests say

Bankswood Cottage is a spacious and well-equipped holiday home in a peaceful rural setting near Dumfries, offering beautiful views and a lovely garden. Guests appreciate the cosy lounges, modern kitchen, and comfortable bedrooms, making it ideal for families, couples, and dog owners. The location is perfect for exploring local nature reserves, castles, and scenic walks. While some minor maintenance and cleaning issues have been noted, the overall experience is relaxing and enjoyable, with many guests keen to return.

Most guests found the cottage clean and comfortable, but several mentioned areas needing a deeper clean, such as under beds and some kitchen utensils. Occasional dampness in bathrooms and leftover rubbish were also noted.

The cottage's tranquil rural location, beautiful views, and proximity to Dumfries, nature reserves, and castles are highly praised. Some guests found it a little remote, but most enjoyed the peace and access to local attractions.

Guests consistently mention the cottage's warmth, comfortable beds, and spacious living areas. The two lounges and secure garden are appreciated, though a few found the lounge furniture too low.

The cottage is well-equipped with modern appliances, two bathrooms, and ample supplies. However, some guests noted maintenance issues such as loose toilet seats, worn paintwork, broken outdoor seating, and a need for a larger fridge.

Guests appreciated the abundance of household supplies like dishwasher tablets and soap, but noted the absence of a welcome pack or small gifts. Please note that gifts or welcome packs are not guaranteed.

One of the best cottages. Very comfy and warm. Great views. Had trouble finding it initially, could do with better directions. Large interesting garden for dogs.

A little disappointed to be fair. After reading previous reviews I was expecting more. In all honesty Bankswood could be a really good property but it is in need of some TLC. The interior paintwork is chipped and scuffed, the door handle to the twin room kept falling off ( a simple few screws would solve the issue) toilet seats were loose and potentially dangerous, the sound on TV in living room kept fading on/off, some kitchen utensils had to be cleaned prior to use, no dish cloth or scouring pad supplied, mop head snapped during cleaning, so unable to do a final mop on day of leaving. We were not notified of a scheduled power cut from 9am ( during breakfast) after contacting the owner he agreed to let us know when power was restored, which he didn’t, it came back on at 3pm just as we walked back in the door. Lots of gardening debris with sharp thorns left on the hardcore areas from chopping back rose hedges, so they kept dragging in to the property on clothing and dog. The garden furniture has seen better daysThe lounge furniture, for us, was too low and caused us a few problems standing up.A welcome pack, even if it is just a pint of milk and a few biscuits would be a good idea as there are no local shops. We are seasoned cottage holiday makers so we make we have everything ( just in case), but some others may be less organised. The kitchen area was lovely, a perfect place to enjoy meals.I hope the owner ( with all his experience) puts things right, it has potential to be a fabulous property, but just ‘looking nice’ isn’t enough, sorry.
