Situated in the heart of Galloway amidst some of the finest scenery in southern Scotland, Saltlife Cottage is ideally located to explore the breathtaking scenery and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, wilderness and romance. Explore the Galloway Hills with their many hidden lochs, burns and waterfalls, the beautiful Solway coastline with sandy beaches, rocky coves and picturesque villages.
Wigtown Bay Local Nature Reserve is the largest local reserve in the UK. It has internationally recognised significant numbers of pink-footed geese, greylag geese, many species of duck and wading birds visiting in autumn and winter. Visit the Interpretation Centre where you can view by video camera the Galloway ospreys during their nesting season (April to August), or the local wetlands for the rest of the year.
Take a look at the distillery at Bladnoch, established in 1814 which offers a large shop and guided tours, or meander around Wigtown appreciating the gift shops, small gallery, plant nursery, numerous book shops and many cafés.
The Southern Scotland regions boast an exceptional number of absorbing activities, whatever you’re after from spending a quiet afternoon with a rod and reel beside one of the area’s many excellent rivers, or pushing yourself to the limit along a challenging 7 Stanes cycle track. Horse riding, golf, sailing, diving and numerous walks are available in the area and with its famously mild climate and the balmy influence of the Gulf Stream, Galloway is home to some of the most beautiful and exotic gardens. Absolutely gorgeous cottage in a serene location. Step out the back gate to look at the ocean - not exactly direct beach access but near enough.Cottage was beautiful inside, well maintained and clean. Games & books everywhere, binoculars very nice touch for looking out to sea from the living room windows.Kitchen was well equipped with washer, dishwasher, microwave, large fridge freezer, oven & hob. Only problem was storage for food - self catering for five adults we just had nowhere to store food. I understand the kitchen is small but even a couple of shelves either above the washer or above the drawers next to the hob would work really well. The tiny corner shelf containing sauces etc was out of reach for me - the corner was too wide - again a corner cupboard could utilise this space better.TV in the twin bedroom would also be nice - not just children using this room, even though it's decorated for children.More than one house key could also be supplied - we couldn't do things separately without waiting for the key holder to return to let us in - The View just across the way, however was a lovely place to wait! Would I stay here again - definitely. Would I recommend - definitely.

We had two weeks in Salt View Cottage, we were a little wary having read the negative review from the previous renter, but we need not have worried, any issues had been ironed out and our stay was all we wanted, Darren, kept in touch to make sure all was well. We hope to return
