Port William, known as the ‘Machars of Galloway’ has a rugged coastline and boasts stunning views over Luce Bay to the Mull of Galloway and the Isle of Man. Situated in the heart of Galloway amidst some of the finest scenery in southern Scotland, it is ideally located to explore the breathtaking scenery and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, wilderness and romance. From the Galloway Hills with their many hidden lochs, burns and waterfalls, to the beautiful Solway coastline with sandy beaches, rocky coves and picturesque villages to explore.
Wigtown Bay Local Nature Reserve is the largest local reserve in the UK. It has internationally recognised significant numbers of pink-footed geese, greylag geese, many species of duck and wading birds visiting in autumn and winter. Why not visit the Interpretation Centre, where you can view by video camera, the Galloway Ospreys during their nesting season (April to August), or the local wetlands for the rest of the year? Another great place to visit, is the distillery at Bladnoch, established in 1814, which offers a large shop and guided tours, or meander around Wigtown appreciating the high quality gift shops, small gallery, excellent plant nursery, numerous book shops and many cafés.
The Southern Scotland regions boast an exceptional number of absorbing activities, whatever you’re after, from spending a quiet afternoon with a rod and reel beside one of the area’s many excellent rivers, or pushing yourself to the limit along a challenging 7 Stanes cycle track. Horse riding, golf, sailing, diving and numerous walks are all available in the area, and with its famously mild climate and the balmy influence of the Gulf Stream, Galloway is home to some of the most beautiful and exotic gardens. Nearby there is a fish and chip shop, and a licenced café for evening meals on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Beach 20 yards. Shop 100 yards.

Cottage was good with a couple of quirks - the kitchen tap is a heating one which took me a bit of figuring out and the bathroom was very cosy :-). Area was good - shop just down the way and PIRSAC just around the corner ( a cafe and bar which pays to support the local inshore lifeboat ). Hairdressers across the way and a garage round the corner - thats about it except a local snack bar which kept strange opening hours ( or maybe because its off season ? ). Pubs/restaurants need to drive to get to either Isle of Whithorn or Garlieston. Too cold to use the garden much would be excellent in summer with views over the bay.

We had a very relaxing stay at this beautiful laid out cottage. Nice drive to isle of whithorn, the Steam packet pub was nice. Drove to the harbour Inn at Garleiston ,both pubs dog friendly as well. The cock Inn was lovely as well busy, seafood dishes look amazing. Loved the swing at the top of the garden, and watched the sun go down, such gorgeous views. Thank you for the prosecco and eating apples, they were delicious. Highly recommended Pebble cottage in Port William beautiful part of Scotland.
