Guests say

Ardwell House East Lodge is praised for its cleanliness, comfortable accommodation, and stunning wildlife encounters, including red squirrels. Its remote location offers peace and access to local attractions, though a car is necessary. The lack of Wi-Fi and some amenities is noted, but the property's charm and the thoughtful touches, such as a ready-to-light log fire, compensate for these minor drawbacks.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The lodge consistently receives high remarks for its spotless condition and well-kept environment, indicating meticulous attention to cleanliness.

The location is appreciated for its proximity to wildlife and local attractions, though some guests mention the need for a car and the presence of a nearby road.

Guests find the lodge comfortable, with good-sized rooms, central heating, and a cosy atmosphere, although some note the noise from traffic.

The property is well-equipped, but the absence of Wi-Fi, limited TV channels, and no mention of other modern conveniences like a washing machine leads to a slightly lower score.

The owners' communication and the ready-to-light log fire are thoughtful touches, though no gifts are mentioned, and such gestures should not be expected.

The lodge has been renovated and finished to the highest of standards with hardwood floors and doors throughout matching and retaining the original character of this listed building. The sitting room has an attractive open fire making this a cosy base from which to explore the South Rhins Peninsula with its superb beaches, which are within easy reach, together with coastal walks.

The lodge is in the grounds of 18th Century Ardwell House and guests have access to the estate grounds and gardens which are a popular attraction due to their exotic flora, walled garden, ponds and enchanting woodland walks. The estate is also able to offer guests fishing on the estate's loch which is stocked with rainbow trout.

There are numerous activities available in the area and two not to be missed are the Mull of Galloway lighthouse, which sits on top of 300-foot cliffs with views of Ireland and the Isle of Man and the world-famous Logan Botanical Garden. The garden, one of six open to the public in this small area, is of particular note due to the varied species and specimens supported due to the mild climate that the area has from the effect of the Atlantic Gulf Stream. The local villages of Sandhead, Portpatrick and Port William are all worth exploring with deserted sandy or pebble beaches making for an enjoyable day out. The bustling fishing village of Portpatrick is not to be missed with a good variety of places to eat most with outside seating overlooking the picturesque harbour and further afield Wigtown, Scotland's national Book Town is a must for book lovers.

The lodge makes for a wonderful holiday base either for relaxing in the cosy sitting room, enjoying the outside decking area in the beautiful garden or for getting out and about to enjoy the glorious scenery. A new path has been created meaning the Lodge is less than 200 yards' walk from the shore of Luce Bay and the Mull of Galloway coastal walk. The "back shore" has views looking over to Ireland, the shore with its cliffs and sandy bays such as Ardwell Bay is only three miles away. The quiet roads make it an ideal location for a country drive whilst for those wanting more strenuous activities the 7Stanes Mountain Bike Routes are also not far away in the Forestry Commission's Galloway Forest Park. If you live in a town you will be amazed by how bright the stars are on a clear night and you can enjoy them from the garden of the lodge whilst enjoying a glass of complimentary wine.

Lovely clean and comfy property. Just the right size for a couple of guests. All that we needed in a cottage was provided. The wildlife in the area was amazing from the red squirrels in the garden to the seals on the beach over the road. Plenty to see and do in the area with Stranraer a 10 mile drive for all your shopping needs.

The cottage was very well equipped in the kitchen, with everything you would need for a holiday, it was comfortable in the sitting room and bedroom, spotlessly clean, tidy and quirky, enclosed garden to the rear that was safe for our little dog. It had sea views from the room, kitchen and garden with plenty of sitting outside to watch the waves. The added bonus was seeing the red squirrels playing in the garden and wooded area, there was a variety of birds that visited the feeders, it was near a road but didn’t really hear the small amount of traffic as it isn’t a busy place, it is situated on a disused track to the big house so there isn’t any disruption there. Overall it is a beautiful place that we would go to again.

Ardwell Lodge is a very comfortable, well equipped cottage in a lovely location. A great place to relax and enjoy the wildlife coming to the feeders especially the red squirrels.
