The well-equipped kitchen makes preparing breakfast, a picnic or an evening meal wonderfully convenient, while the adjoining breakfast or dinner bar provides a comfortable place to enjoy your food. Settle back in the lounge after a day’s adventures, enjoying the warmth of the heating and the cosy glow from the built-in wood-effect fire.
Patio doors fill the lodge with natural light and open directly onto the courtyard. Here, you can slip into your private hot tub, light the firepit and enjoy uninterrupted views across the surrounding fields. Watch for local wildlife, including the resident red squirrels that can often be spotted scampering along the special rope suspended overhead. As evening falls, pour a glass of something chilled and enjoy the tranquillity of this lovely rural setting.
Den One is ideally positioned for discovering the beautiful Rhins of Galloway. Take your dog for a woodland walk through nearby Castle Kennedy Gardens, where friendly dogs are welcome on leads, or explore the paths, lochs and impressive castle ruins within its extensive grounds. Visit the picturesque harbour village of Portpatrick for dramatic clifftop walks, colourful buildings and a choice of welcoming pubs and restaurants.
For a day beside the sea, head to Sandhead, Ardwell Bay or Killantringan Bay, where you can enjoy long walks, fresh coastal air and beautiful views. Travel south towards Scotland’s most southerly point at the Mull of Galloway, stopping to admire its rugged cliffs, lighthouse and abundant birdlife. Dogs should be kept under close control around livestock and nesting birds.
Stranraer is also within easy reach, offering shops, cafés and pleasant walks along the shores of Loch Ryan. Garden lovers can visit nearby Glenwhan Gardens and its moorland wildflower walk, renowned for wonderful views across Luce Bay.

We were lucky enough to be among the first guests to stay at Zendenz, and from the moment we arrived it felt special.The setting is wonderful: expansive open countryside, complete tranquillity and privacy, with unobstructed views across the fields and walks straight from the door. The accommodation itself manages to combine a really stylish, contemporary feel with warmth and character. There are beautifully handcrafted details throughout, including some seriously impressive metalwork, and everything feels as though it has been designed not just to look good, but to work brilliantly too.Outside, there’s a fantastic hot tub, a great fire pit, a lovely sitting area with comfortable cushions and, particularly important to us, a genuinely secure, dog-proof garden.The dog-friendliness deserves a special mention. This is quite simply the most dog-friendly place we have ever stayed. Our dog had his own welcome treats, toys, brush, blankets and even a little hoodie! It wasn't just that dogs were permitted; he had actually been thought about as a guest.The same extraordinary attention to detail was everywhere. The welcome hamper was lovely, and the kitchen was exceptionally well equipped. Proper cookware, utensils and appliances, all immaculate and genuinely good quality, the sort of things that make self-catering a pleasure rather than a compromise. We kept finding things and thinking, “Oh, they’ve thought of that too.”The bedroom was gorgeous and the bed incredibly comfortable, with beautiful bed linen and towels. There were separate towels for the hot tub, lovely robes and very cool sliders. The living space was equally comfortable, with a lovely fireplace and everything we could possibly have wanted.The owners were incredibly hospitable too. They checked to make sure we were settled and had everything we needed, without ever intruding on the privacy of the stay. It was reassuring simply knowing they were nearby if we needed anything.I recently read Will Guidara’s Unreasonable Hospitality, and staying here genuinely made me think of it. It felt as though the owners had read the book and decided to put the philosophy into practice: think about what would delight your guests, pay attention to the smallest details, and then go beyond what they reasonably expect.Zendenz absolutely did that. It was peaceful, beautifully made, exceptionally comfortable, extraordinarily well equipped and full of thoughtful touches. We felt thoroughly looked after, dog included.Cannot recommend it highly enough.
