Ridge End Cottage receives glowing praise for its immaculate cleanliness, cosy atmosphere, and well-equipped facilities. Guests consistently highlight the stunning, peaceful, and remote location, perfect for those seeking tranquillity and breathtaking views. The owners are frequently described as exceptionally helpful and attentive, ensuring a welcoming stay. Families and couples alike appreciate the spacious layout and thoughtful touches. While a few minor issues with mattresses and the dishwasher were noted, the overwhelming sentiment is one of satisfaction and a desire to return to this beautiful retreat on the Isle of Skye.
The vast majority of reviews describe the cottage as spotlessly clean, tidy, and well-maintained. Only one review mentioned an issue with dishes in the cabinets, likely due to a dishwasher problem, but this was an isolated comment among overwhelmingly positive feedback.
Guests consistently praise the cottage's remote, peaceful, and scenic location, with panoramic views and proximity to nature. The setting is described as idyllic for those seeking seclusion and natural beauty, with easy access by car to island attractions.
The cottage is frequently described as cosy, warm, and comfortable, with spacious rooms and inviting beds. A few guests mentioned a less comfortable mattress in one bedroom, but most found the sleeping arrangements excellent and the atmosphere homely.
Reviews highlight the cottage as very well-equipped, with modern amenities, a well-stocked kitchen, and thoughtful extras like games and DVDs. Occasional minor maintenance issues (e.g., dishwasher, mattress) were noted but did not detract from the overall positive impression.
Many guests mention the owners' exceptional hospitality, helpful communication, and thoughtful gestures such as safety measures for children and, in some cases, gifts like fresh eggs or a starter pack for the log burner. Please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.
Situated in the scattered and isolated crofting township of Conista, within the surrounds of Duntulm, in the far north of the Trotternish Peninsula of Skye, Ridge End Cottage enjoys spectacular views over tranquil crofts to the sea and distant mountains. Unusually designed, the traditional, whitewashed exterior of this detached cottage belies its modern décor, with a cathedral ceiling and a mezzanine bedroom. The high standard of craftsmanship, cosy furnishings and amount of wood used give a warm, welcoming atmosphere. With great hill and coastal walking, and boat trips nearby, the cottage is an ideal wildlife and birdwatcher's retreat. The elusive corncrake inhabits a number of crofting meadows nearby, and a sighting of the rare merlin is possible.
Along the seashore and lochs, otters and seals patrol the sheltered bays. Seabirds including diving gannets, cormorants, guillemots and puffins abound. A stay at Ridge End Cottage promises to be a memorable holiday indeed. EPC Rating: Band C
Situated on the Trotternish Peninsula in the north of Skye is the scattered village of Conista - formed from a few, traditionally whitewashed cottages. Ten miles from the village of Uig, and six from Staffin, Conista is well served by local amenities. It also boasts close proximity to Duntulm, named after a steep rocky headland where the ruins of Duntulm Castle can be seen. The entire island offers excellent walking routes, as does the nearby mainland - accessible by both road bridge and ferry - whilst the breathtaking scenery makes a wonderful backdrop for cycling trips, fishing and birdwatching, especially as many seabirds use the steep cliffs during the early summer, including the rare Fulmar.

Slopes down on the edges.

The listing on Sykes was very accurate, and although the cottage is quite isolated we had an excellent wi-fi and tv reception, even during the recent storm. There was excellent water pressure in the modern shower, and we had a restful sleep in a comfortable king size bed. The fresh eggs left in the fridge by Catriona was a kind and thoughtful gesture, as was the flask of hot water, just in case storm Amy affected anything ... Thankfully it didn't. All in all we had a relaxing time within a perfect place to chill.
