About this property

Situated in the scattered and isolated crofting township of Conista, within the surrounds of Duntulm, in the far north of the Trotternish Peninsula of Skye, Ridge End Cottage enjoys spectacular views over tranquil crofts to the sea and distant mountains. Unusually designed, the traditional, whitewashed exterior of this detached cottage belies its modern décor, with a cathedral ceiling and a mezzanine bedroom. The high standard of craftsmanship, cosy furnishings and amount of wood used give a warm, welcoming atmosphere. With great hill and coastal walking, and boat trips nearby, the cottage is an ideal wildlife and birdwatcher's retreat. The elusive corncrake inhabits a number of crofting meadows nearby, and a sighting of the rare merlin is possible.

Along the seashore and lochs, otters and seals patrol the sheltered bays. Seabirds including diving gannets, cormorants, guillemots and puffins abound. A stay at Ridge End Cottage promises to be a memorable holiday indeed. EPC Rating: Band C

Situated on the Trotternish Peninsula in the north of Skye is the scattered village of Conista - formed from a few, traditionally whitewashed cottages. Ten miles from the village of Uig, and six from Staffin, Conista is well served by local amenities. It also boasts close proximity to Duntulm, named after a steep rocky headland where the ruins of Duntulm Castle can be seen. The entire island offers excellent walking routes, as does the nearby mainland - accessible by both road bridge and ferry - whilst the breathtaking scenery makes a wonderful backdrop for cycling trips, fishing and birdwatching, especially as many seabirds use the steep cliffs during the early summer, including the rare Fulmar.

The listing on Sykes was very accurate, and although the cottage is quite isolated we had an excellent wi-fi and tv reception, even during the recent storm. There was excellent water pressure in the modern shower, and we had a restful sleep in a comfortable king size bed. The fresh eggs left in the fridge by Catriona was a kind and thoughtful gesture, as was the flask of hot water, just in case storm Amy affected anything ... Thankfully it didn't. All in all we had a relaxing time within a perfect place to chill.

Really well looked after with everything we needed for the holiday. Loved the rabbits running round the garden and the eagles in the sky. It was a great base for going out and exploring across the North and central parts of the island.

The cottage has great views of the northern end of the Trotternish Ridge and also out to sea. Facilities were great and the log burner most welcome! Highly recommended!
