Guests say

Brae Lodge is a charming cottage in Buckie, highly praised for its stunning views of Cullen Bay and excellent location near the beach and local amenities. Guests appreciate the cosy, well-equipped interior and spacious feel. Recent improvements have enhanced the property, and many guests return for repeat stays. While some mention areas for improvement such as bed linen quality, furnishings, and minor maintenance, the overall experience is positive, with the beautiful setting and homely touches standing out.

Several guests noted issues with bed linen freshness, stained pillows, and some areas needing a deeper clean, particularly in corners and the bathroom. However, most surfaces were considered acceptable, and the property was generally described as cosy and welcoming.

The location is consistently praised for its breathtaking views, proximity to the beach, shops, and coastal path. Guests love the setting and the opportunity to spot dolphins and enjoy the local area.

Guests found the cottage cosy and beds comfortable, especially after recent upgrades to sofas. However, some mentioned hard beds, dated furnishings, and brought their own pillows for added comfort.

The cottage is well-equipped and improvements have been made, but guests highlighted issues with the fridge, freezer, bathroom fittings, and some kitchen utensils. Maintenance of soft furnishings and curtain hooks was also mentioned.

There are no specific mentions of welcome gifts or extra thoughtful touches in the reviews, so a score cannot be provided for this category.

If you are very lucky the local dolphins will provide an acrobatic display. There are two large double bedrooms one with double bed and sea view, the second has twin beds and looks over the enclosed garden.

Golf enthusiasts have a lovely links course practically on the doorstep, which has stunning views over the bay.

Be sure to try the local dishes including Cullen skink, a hearty chowder-like fish soup. The clear waters here are the base for a resident colony of bottlenose dolphins, and there are several companies in the vicinity running wildlife cruises, when you could also spot seals, many seabirds and even whales.

Cullen is a wonderful little village, a real treasure trove of cute shops and cafés, and a perfect place to spend some time. Elgin and Inverness can be reached easily for a day out, as well as the famous Whisky and Castle trails. Beach ¼ mile. Shop 120 yards, pub and restaurant 350 yards.

Although only a small house, it's more spacious than the pictures appear - and the pictures don't do justice to the incredible view. It was very well equipped, down to the binoculars provided. We saw dolphins and a whale in the bay below while sitting on the terrace and from the lounge. It's cosy; comfortable beds and the new sofas are great. The only downsides were that the smart TV was a bit patchy, and the parking, although close, is not right outside the door (neither of which bothered us). Overall good value for money for two adults and two kids to stay. And there was space and chairs enough for us to invite grandparents for a meal too! Cullen is a nice village with several shops, and places to eat, along with the scenic viaduct, harbour, and beach. Most shops don't open until 10, and only certain days of the week.

Another wonderful week at this gem of a cottage which we are privileged to share. The improvements over the winter have greatly enhanced the property.

This was not my 1st visit to brae lodge and hopefully it won’t be my last my only disappointment this time was our lack of view , the previous holidays here we had a perfect view of the sea boats coming and going and especially the dolphin/ porpoises 🐬 this time this huge tree had grown across the road directly in front of brae lodge (looking like it was on waste ground) blocking out at least a third or more of the view The new pictures advertising brae lodge did not show this tree ☹️ other than this I would definitely give brae lodge 90% and would suggest this accommodation to anyone
