St Margaret’s Hope on the Orkney Island of South Ronaldsay is a charming, historical and useful place to stay. Known as The Hope the village dates from the 13th century and many of the harbour buildings date from the 17th century. The village is close to stunning sandy beaches and the island of South Ronaldsay is connected to other islands -including Orkney Mainland where the capital Kirkwall is located- by the historical Churchill Barriers (causeways). You can be exploring Kirkwall in 25 minutes and be over in wonderful Stromness in 40 minutes. The Hope is also one of two places where ferries from the north coast of Scotland arrive. The Gills Bay ferry arrives into St Margaret’s Hope. Don’t hesitate in booking The Legion for a short break or a week long stay. It’s a truly outstanding holiday home.

The Legion was such a joy. My sister and husband joined us for our Orkney trip and we were so pleased with the accommodation. Everything required had been thought of and the house was so comfortable and spotless. Angela had left us a very welcome (and generous) hospitality pack to get us started and we are now Orkney Butter converts! This was a superb place to stay and should we return to Orkney we would definitely book it again. We can't recommend it any more highly. Thank you so much Angela for making our first visit to Orkney so comfortable.

Excellent accommodation in a fantastic location overlooking the harbour in St Margaret’s Hope. We were made to feel very welcome by all of the locals in the village. If you get the chance to join in with the monthly ‘Bite and Blether’ in the Cromarty Hall opposite the Legion, make sure you give it a go, it’s another great way to find out more about the history of the village! If you play golf, the Golf Club is only 4 mins walk away, a honesty box is available for your payment.. All Brilliant, definitely recommend the Legion!

Very well appointed and equiped. Quiet peaceful location, despite being on road to ferry terminal. The one downside was we needed to keep heating running in living area to counter the cold end of May weather.
