The Old Schoolhouse in Aberfeldy is highly praised for its comfort, well-appointed kitchen, and beautiful location. Guests appreciate the spaciousness, cleanliness, and the enclosed garden, making it ideal for families and pet owners. While some minor maintenance issues and a lack of welcome gifts are noted, the overall experience is one of a peaceful and enjoyable stay with several recommending a return visit.
Most guests found the Old Schoolhouse to be clean and well-maintained, with only a few isolated incidents of cleanliness issues such as dog hair and cobwebs mentioned. The property is generally upheld to a high standard of cleanliness.
The location is consistently lauded for its beauty and convenience, with easy access to local towns, eateries, and outdoor activities. The proximity to the Tay and local amenities makes it an ideal base for exploring Scotland.
Guests frequently mention the comfortable beds and furnishings, with the property providing a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. Some guests noted the sofas could be more supportive, but overall, the comfort level is rated highly.
The facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and ample space. However, there are several comments about minor maintenance issues such as a non-working dishwasher and the need for better garden furniture, which slightly lowers the score.
While the reviews reflect a thoughtful approach to amenities, such as the provision of wellies and dog leashes, there is no mention of gifts, and therefore, it is not possible to score this category.
This attractive, stone-built cottage lies in the rural village of Grandtully, close to the River Tay in Perthshire. The Old Schoolhouse is a lovely choice for families, providing a heart-warming base to return to each evening, with a lawned garden where you can sit out and take in the day’s events. Internally, the property features a large kitchen where the chef of the group can get acquainted amongst a host of appliances, including an electric oven and hob, microwave and fridge, while the others can prepare the oak dining table for a sumptuous feast. When it comes to unwinding, head to the sitting room where you can take comfort next to the woodburning stove whilst catching up on your favourite shows, or make use of the sun lounge and challenge each other to a family boardgame. As the evening comes to a close, choose from three well-presented bedrooms to catch your rest; a king-size and two double rooms are on offer, each completed with soft furnishings and a good amount of storage space for your personal belongings. Allow your pooch to stretch their legs in the enclosed garden whilst you kick back on the patio furniture and soak up the last of the evening sunshine. Nestled on the banks of River Tay you will find a local pub and restaurant, and across the street lies the Grantully Hotel both with excellent restaurants and bars which are perfect on those nights you don’t fancy cooking. Grandtully is also home to an award-winning chocolate artisan at Iain Burnett’s Highland Chocolatier, as well as a convenience store where you can pick up any essentials. Venture to the small town of Aberfeldy, where you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to outdoor adventures; take on white-water rafting, abseiling, gorge walking or canoeing or simply spend an afternoon wandering the Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery or Aberfeldy Watermill. We walked from the door and further afield. There are lots of walks (and other information) provided at the house so no need for prior research. The kitchen is really well equipped, but we had superb meals at the two local pubs, within a 10 minute walk. The house is spotlessly clean. The beds are so comfy and the whole house and gardens are the home away from home you wish you had

Special thanks to the owner for providing three umbrellas and a big library of good DVDs to the visitors! Some minor improvements would make the stay even more agreable: The shower didn't get really hot and the heating in general was adjusted to a quite low average temperature; The shower in the basement and the cooker could have been cleaner.
