First time ever I have been really disappointed with a cottage. The smell of smoke even though fires were not used was unacceptable. Stinging eyes and sore throats. This property requires an assessment for COSHH (control of substances hazardous to health).Cottage has a beautiful sunny garden in a very nice area but decor and heating needs upgrading and modernisation. Not good value for money.

The cottage was as described. It was in a quiet village ideal for a walking centre. The owners were able to be contacted if problems occurred. All the equipment worked perfectly and we had a pleasant stay with everything that made our holiday very enjoyable.

First of all I just want to say that this review is no reflection on the owners. We were greeted warmly at the house by the owner and was shown around the property and everything was explained to us (how to use the cooker etc). The issue we had was that the particulars suggested this was a property for all seasons - unfortunately this is not the case. I recognise that the weather conditions were not ideal (which is why we went, we wanted the snowy conditions) but the house is a really cold property. It has electric storage heaters and open fires in the living room and the dinning room. We found out very quickly that it was going to take a lot to keep the house warm. With the heating on as high as well could get it and the log fires going in both rooms we just couldn’t stay warm. There was a draft that came through the front door that really made the ground floor of the property very chilly. We persevered but after one night we just couldn’t stay. Of the 3 of us that were staying 2 of us have complex medical issues that are exacerbated by cold temperatures. Outdoors this can be managed with warm clothing and plenty of hot drinks but just sat in a cold house is not ideal. We also found that the open fires tended to leave a ‘sooty’ residue that we found on the dinning table. Due to this we had to take the decision to leave the property after 1 night and seek alternative accommodation elsewhere. I have no doubt that during the summer months this is a lovely quiet place to come and recharge the batteries but in winter it just isn’t suitable. This was a shame as that’s not what we were expecting based on the information contained on the website.
