Surrounded by ancient pine forest and with Schiehallion – one of the region’s most recognisable Munros – to the east, it sits within the Loch Rannoch Highland Club, where local sports and leisure facilities add a sense of luxury. For outdoorsy types, the surrounding area offers endless opportunities for water sports, walking, cycling, and wildlife watching – red squirrels, pine marten, golden eagles, osprey, red deer and otters may all be seen. Less than 0.5 miles away, Kinloch Rannoch was once favoured by wealthy Victorians who were drawn to its natural beauty and clean air. Head west to Rannoch Station (16 miles) and take the train to Mallaig on the West Highland Way, or take the road east instead, and admire the impressive Falls of Bruar (15.5 miles) before continuing onwards to Blair Atholl (18 miles), on the southern tip of the Cairngorms National Park.

When it’s time to sleep, a pull-down double griffin bed in the lounge sleeps two. The master double bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom, while the twin bedroom has use of a separate bathroom.

Take a seat on the balcony and enjoy drinks and snacks alfresco – early-risers can watch the cloud lifting from the loch in the morning sun; later in the day, the sunsets towards Glencoe can be stunning. There is ample parking in the site's car parks, on a first-come, first-served basis.
