About this property

Timsgearraidh 4.1 miles. Resting in Uigen near Timsgerraidh, on the Isle of Lewis and enjoying the sand, sea and scenic mountains, the charming cottage of Taigh an Uillt really does have it all when it comes to a Hebridean getaway.

Overlooking a scattering of lush headlands across a clear blue bay, you will find convenient off-road parking, perfect for unpacking. Be welcomed into this single-storey cottage by a spacious sitting room, where a glowing woodburning stove adds a homely warmth to the area; settle down on one of the three leather sofas, watch TV or browse the books on local interest.

Following on from the sitting room a stylish kitchen/diner is fitted with all the household appliances you will need to cook up a storm and impress your guests, and a central dining table to bring guests together to enjoy a heart-warming meal and take part in the games provided. Every family member will be presented with a charming place to snuggle up after a long day of beachcombing, and there are several homely, decorated bedrooms to choose from: a king-size with storage, a twin and a single room perfect for children.

If you are chilly from the Outer Hebrides air, this is not a problem, with an amply fitted bathroom ready to help eliminate any sand and mud.

Outside, have breakfast on the lawn whilst your four-legged friend reclines in the sunshine, with spectacular views of the surroundings.

Make your way down to the local sandy beach, visible from the house, and take your kayaks out on the water, beachcomb with your pets or even try out wild swimming. Around the bay there will be stunning wildlife such as redshanks, otters, red deer, and golden eagles, and more sandy beaches at Uig Bay and Reef to explore, as well as more inland hill hikes. Further from the house you will find restaurants such as The Edge café at Aird Uig, overlooking the impressive cliffs and out across the Atlantic Ocean, Uig community store offering essentials whilst you can head over to the nearby village of Timsgearraidh to find a selection of shops, a pub and cafes for refreshments, or there is the option of visiting Stornoway for bars and refreshments, trying out some of the local craft and produce stores as you head over to Abhainn Dearg distillery for tours and tasters. There is a huge variety of local archaeological and geological sites available to visit including Calanais Standing Stones, Lewis Castle grounds, Norse Mill and Kiln, Whalebone Arch and walks through Stiomrabhaigh and Dun Borranish.

Whether you are looking for a beach walk, action-packed watersports or historical landmarks, a stay at Taigh an Uillt is sure to be one you and your family will remember.
