About this property

This welcoming terraced cottage is situated on the edge of the popular town of Kidwelly and is just a short walk from the impressive ruins of the Norman castle. The cottage is a perfect base for friends or family looking to explore the sandy beaches, nature reserves and local countryside of South Wales, yet being accessible to a quaint little town.

Set over two floors, there are three comfortable bedrooms with a family bathroom. On the ground floor there is a modern well-equipped kitchen with breakfast bar and everything you need to cook an evening meal. There is a separate dining room leading off the cosy sitting room where you can relax after a busy day exploring. Outside, you can sit in the patio garden and relax as the sun goes down, or perhaps the children and dogs can run off any remaining energy in the seperate lawned garden, before coming back and enjoying a barbecue supper. Kidwelly is steeped in history, with the stunning remains of the 12th century castle in the heart of the town. This gives you a glimpse of a bygone era, as well as the industrial museum, based in the grounds of the historic tin mine. You are a few miles from fabulous sandy beaches and just 10 miles away from the town of Carmarthen, which offers great shopping, bars, restaurants and a cinema. The area offers various opportunities for great days out including a number of local golf courses. Nearby Pembrey Country Park offers a myriad of activities including cycling, walking, tobogganing and pony trekking or simply enjoy the 7 miles of sandy beach on the edge of the park itself. You are close to some great sporting venues with Ffos Las racecourse and Parc Y Scarlets being within 10 miles of the cottage. Slightly further afield, why not head north and enjoy a day visiting the stunning National Botanic Gardens of Wales, Aberglasney Medieval House and Gardens or the National Trust’s Dinefwr Estate, with its majestic deer park, on the edge of the town of Llandeilo. A perfect location to retreat to after a day exploring the local countryside and fabulous beaches, ideal for families and friends looking for a comfy property on the edge of a popular little town.

The coastal town of Kidwelly is situated at the centre of West Wales, amidst a superb mix of rolling countryside and glistening seashores. Kidwelly Castle is a must to explore, whilst the fascinating Heritage Museum makes for an interesting tour. Nearby Pembrey Country Park offers an array of outdoor activities including horse riding and an exhilarating dry-ski slope. Follow the Celtic Trail Cycleway, explore the fascinating Wildfowl and Wetlands Park, or take a short drive to the scenic Brecon Beacons.

So I hope that tells its own story! I’ve already rebooked too.

In fact, I enjoyed the first week so much that I added a second while I was there since the cottage wasn’t booked. The house is superbly positioned. I don’t drive and that wasn’t a problem at all from a practical perspective, with a large Coop/local shops and bus stops within an 5 minute walk and a train station nearby. Also several takeaways though I didn’t try these. Time for Tea does very nice coffee though. Also Parc y Box (the farm shop). Kidwelly is an interesting place in its own right and there are great walks (albeit some rather muddy in March!) on the doorstep but it’s also pretty easy (and quick) to reach other attractions if you check out public transport. Camarthen is great, while Pembury Park/Beach and Cefn Sidn Sands are simply gorgeous. I also recommend the coastal walk, Burry Port to/from Llanelli which is very easy/flat, not muddy, and has lovely views. Either way, the house has an excellent collection of local interest books and leaflets to help you decide what to do and understand the local history. These were much appreciated. The house is also very well equipped (particularly the kitchen) and comfortable. I really enjoyed the quiet in contrast to London. And the view from the loo is excellent! Ed the owner is exceptionally easy to contact and friendly/quick to respond to any queries and this was also much appreciated. I’m now checking the availability calendar so I can rebook using the voucher from Sykes. Thank you, Sykes!

In good location - no noise from road but near to town centre, supermarket and a good cafe.
