The cottage is on a hillside in a very peaceful location, with a patio and lawn at the back, and a field behind, with hedges and trees nearby. There are great views over the valley. There is a lot of wildlife to be seen from the back garden, particularly a wide variety of birds. Buzzards and kites fly nearby, and swallows and house martins swoop over the lawn. Smaller birds and butterflies inhabit the hedgerows. The cottage is very well equipped - everything you could want for cooking, comfortable seating, spacious bedrooms, kitchen and living area. There are many places to visit, including nearby Aberystwyth with its funicular railway and camera obscura - also recommend Little Italy restaurant. Slightly further afield, you are ideally placed for Devil's Bridge and the Magic of Life Butterfly Centre, as well as some National Trust properties.Would thoroughly recommend to anyone who wants a comfortable, varied, and nature-filled holiday in this part of Wales.

Our holiday stay at Ty Carreg was excellent as per the above ratings. However, finding the house was another matter. The written directions to the property were vague and incorrect. The lane, more like a track, was on the right coming out of Southgate, not on the left. The what three words app would probably work if you have a 4G or 5g phone to access the internet en route (we didn't). Fortunately we were able to contact the owner by phone and he kindly navigated us to the property. It would also help if the name of the house was shown at the entrance to the track along with the names of the two other houses that share it. Internally, Ty Carreg was immaculate, externally not so. Both the courtyard and the patio were badly in need of weeding and the windows needed cleaning. While we were there, a chap came to mow the grass but did not sweep up after himself, leaving grass clippings amongst the weeds on the patio. None of this, we hasten to add, spoilt our holiday but we hope that these comments prove to be useful.
