The location is convenient for some lovely seaside visits and the setting allowed us a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. The cottage itself has all the amenities you need, including laundry area with washing machine and tumble dryer which is great for muddy clothes, swim suits and towels. The kitchen was well equipped so it felt like a home from home. Though the hot tub and games room were great additions, both need some maintenance. The pergola surrounding the hot tub could do with a paint and some additional lighting (the intermittent flashing fairy lights were slightly jarring at night) and us adults couldn't play pool and darts as intended because there was only one dart and no white ball for the table. The kids in the party made do anyway but it was a shame for us not to fully make use of that space. We were concerned that the hot tub wasn't maintained over our stay - the water line was a bit grubby after a couple of uses (owing to there being ten of us) so we didn't use it on our last full day. General cleanliness was fine but there were some dusty, cobwebby corners and one of the upstairs bathroom bins was full on arrival, as well as some dirty plates in the cupboard (presumably put straight away from the dishwasher without being checked over). Other maintenance issues include a loose tap on the upstairs bathroom sink and the downstairs en suite wet room could do with more effective waterproofing to prevent the water spilling out onto the bedroom floor. We were slightly disappointed that we didn't feel as welcomed as some of the reviews suggested we would. We only happened to bump into the owner when we were asked to move our car from the side of the house to allow their vehicles access. Our kids were also asked to take the owners' dogs back down the lane to their home; we were confused by this as we understood that they would be roaming about. The kids then worried about interacting with them when they did see them which made us feel like a bit of a nuisance. We would recommend a stay at Cariad Cottage based on the beautiful location and the ability to stay with a large group, but some aspects did leave us slightly underwhelmed particularly after reading previous reviews.

The hot tub was enjoyed by all (would have used more if it had a canopy to keep the rain off while in it given the weather we had during our stay). The games barn was good to have attached to the house. Bring your own darts as there weren't any during our stay. The beds were comfy and they provided plenty of towels for hot tub use. Having a tumble dryer was also a bonus. WiFi was sketchy, which was a bit of a problem for the kids. And although there's a smart TV, we couldn't use it because the WiFi wasn't strong enough. Overall it was a good stay and we all enjoyed ourselves..
