About this property

The Old Sweet Shop is a charming semi-detached cottage situated within the walks of the ancient castle at Conwy, a world heritage site, and dates to approximately 1850. Having been fully-restored to its original charm and offering dog-friendly accommodation, The Old Sweet Shop is ideal for a family or two couples looking to explore the coast and countryside of Conwy. On the ground-floor, discover the open-plan living space equipped with a stone-built fire surround featuring a woodburning gas stove, an audio entertainment system and contemporary furniture, ideal for those wanting to indulge in a relaxing evening, enjoy a movie marathon or have a quiet read whilst listening to some soothing background music. The bespoke kitchen features a range of integrated appliances and all the amenities required to cook up a storm, before tucking into your culinary masterpieces at the dining table. In the basement, there is an inviting snug equipped with a desk, monitor and chair, ideal for guests who may need to work during their stay; it can also double up as a children’s play area, so the younger members of your group can transform into their own little hideaway! To the rear, there is a balcony leading to a small patio space, complete with a table and chairs, an idyllic spot for unwinding with a morning coffee or basking in the midday sun. Conwy is a thriving seaside town and a popular destination for tourists, set within the walls of the medieval castle built in 1287 where guests can delve into the local history. Marvel at the views of the pretty harbour and backdrop of mountains, forming part of the Eryri National Park, before sampling some local produce in one of several of the local restaurants, pubs, cafes and independent shops. From here, travel to the beautiful Isle of Anglesey, boasting an array of stunning beaches, or traverse the Eryri National Park, partaking in hikes, wild swimming, watersports or action-packed activities at Zip World Llechwedd. With Llandudno, Bodelwyddan Castle, Snowdon Mountain Railway, Bodnant Garden, Bangor and Conwy Morfa Beach all also within accessible reach, you’ll never be short of things to see or do. Make your getaway to Conwy one to remember with a stay at The Old Sweet Shop.

Conwy, a World Heritage Site, is without doubt world famous for its historical and architectural heritage, yet at the heart of the town lies a hub of bustling activity. Alongside its ancient festivals and fairs, musical recitals, galleries and historical attractions, there is an array of specialist shops, restaurants and hotels. Built for King Edward I between 1283 and 1287, Master James of St George's design, Conwy Castle remains one of the most outstanding achievements of medieval military architecture. The distinctive, elongated shape, with its two barbicans, eight massive towers and a great bow-shaped hall was perhaps determined by the narrow rocky outcrop on which the castle stands. The town is proud of its historic traditions and celebrates its past by retaining many of these in its annual festivals, events and fairs, including the Honey fair, Seed fair and Gwledd Conwy Feast in October, along with other musical events throughout the year. Conwy is the perfect base for exploring the dramatic Snowdonia National Park, walking unspoilt sandy beaches, or taking in the wonderful scenery on your doorstep. Also within reach are the Llechwedd Slate Caverns, which has the longest zip wire in Europe, and Surf Snowdonia is just six miles away.

We’re a family of four with a well behaved dog and loved the fact the cottage was right in the centre of Conwy. The cottage itself was clean, modern and well kept and had everything we needed. We parked at Mount Pleasant car park, just a short walk through the walls and topped up the meter every day. The town itself is full of good eateries and pubs - The Albion is just a few doors away and was a favourite of ours and we loved Dylan’s restaurant for their seafood. There are also some great local walks including Mount Conwy and Morfa Beach which can be accessed by the estuary walkway and through the marina - great at low tide for a dog walk. Further afield we drove about 30 mins to Zip World, Menai Bridge for a RIB ride and to Llechwedd slate mine and recommend them all for a day out. This was our second visit to Conwy and we’d be happy to come back to The Old Sweet Shop next time!

It was in a great location to car parking, shops, places to eat and drink. Everything was just a few minutes walk to reach. The house was spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated with all mod cons. Would definitely recommend a visit.
