The Wye Valley is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offering plenty of scenic walking opportunities amidst rolling hills and lakes for fishing, canoeing and sailing, as well as attractions like its butterfly farm, ideal for children and wildlife lovers. Just across the border are a number of fantastic attractions worth a visit; including Clearwell Caves, offering a network of ancient caverns and an Iron mining museum; Perrygrove Railway Tourist Attraction; the ancient woodland area of Puzzlewood; and Coleford Great Western Railway Museum, set in a 19th century station. Walkers and cyclists can delight in exploring Offa's Dyke footpath, Wye Valley Walk and the Three Castles Walk, which all run through or close to Penallt, while further afield you can explore the Black Mountains; Symonds Yat, with its viewpoint where you can observe Peregrine Falcons; and the incredible Forest of Dean's woodland, hills and valleys, where you can kayak, mountain bike or visit many historic sites like the iconic Gothic ruins of the 11th century Tintern Abbey. White House Farm is a memorable base for a large family gathering in the picturesque Wye Valley.

The village of Penallt sits within the Wve Valley aonb, on the west bank of the River Wye. Close to the Wales/England border, the village boasts stunning views, Nature Reserves, an sssi and two excellent local pubs serving food and real ales. Walkers can enjoy exploring Offa's Dyke, Wye Valley Walk and the Three Castles Walk, which all run through or close to Penallt. Close by is the magnificent Royal Forest of Dean, England's largest oak forest, with numerous walking, cycling and horse-riding trails. Visit the historic town of Monmouth and see Georgian mansions and Victorian courtyards, while the market town of Ross on Wye boasts timbered Tudor houses, excellent shops, pubs and restaurants.
