The best Christmas ever!Thank you, Ann, for being such a wonderful host. From the moment we arrived to a welcome pack of fresh cakes and mince pies, fresh eggs, mulled wine, and doggy treats, until we left, thankfully through the use of Ann's jump leads (oh my days!), we have had the best time. The lodge was beautifully decorated for Christmas, excellently maintained and immaculately cleaned. Ann met us on arrival and offered us anything we needed additionally to cook, but there are ample pans and dishes to prepare and serve Christmas dinner, including crackers and napkins. There is a fantastic stock of board games, books and DVDs, and the log fire was blazing- although the lodge had toasty central heating too.The cottage overlooks the beautiful Welsh countryside- the inspiration of much art, I'm sure, with dotted flocks and changing shadows. The garden is big enough for a hundred cartwheels, football and rugby, and zoomies for doggo. Although, we mostly floated around in the hot tub looking at the clear starry skies. We spent a lot of time at windows talking about the different birds which are always attracted by the expertly placed bird feeders (which Ann also discreetly checked throughout). The love of animals and nature, and caring for people is imprinted in all touches such as chocolates on fresh soft towels and finding us a Candlelight Carol services on request. We had 3 cars which had plenty of space, and we loved the recycling commitment. Ann popped over to check our food bin was empty regularly (Christmas veggie peels meant it was full quickly), and our hot tub was cleaned throughout. All checks were completed discreetly, so apart from our arrival, meeting the donkeys (Boxing Day treat!), and a farewell gift of welsh cakes, chocolate for the kiddos and treats for the dogs, we didn't see the hosts- just considerate Christmas fairy magic!Locally, we attended the Lamb and Flag pub which had huge portions of festive treats that were reasonably priced, carols at the Christmas tree and wandered around the pretty shops, including Serendipity with a mixture of new and antique trinkets, clothes and furniture, and Narrative Coffee which, according to my sister, is in the top 10 in Wales. We also had a Boxing day wander around Elan Valley reservoirs, which also had a busy cafe and well-stocked goody shop. The biggest disappointment is that it is already booked for next Christmas! So if you have the chance to visit the cosy comfortable Cuckoo Hill Lodge, book it now! 🥰

Ann was an exceptional host. The location is excellent to have peace and quiet and my reactive dog s settled very quickly as no one to disturb their peace. Highly recommend

This is our 3rd visit to cuckoo hill lodge we have gone the same time(ish) each year , it’s clean comfortable and fully stocked with all you need to make your stay amazing . Think tranquility with birds singing right outside your door as Ann Feeds them with fat balls and seeds , and 3 donkeys right next to the lodge (if you ask you can go and stroke and feed them ) with a fire you can light (it does get very warm) and slide into a hot tub then you have cuckoo hill lodge inside is immaculate and has three bedrooms, 1 bathroom then other separate shower room and a further toilet. Make sure you take some homemade jam, chutneys and relish home with you too. Will be returning to our own little piece of heaven next year.
