The Shippon is a charming and cosy cottage in Conwy, appreciated for its tranquil location and welcoming hosts. Guests enjoy the beautiful countryside, the pet-friendly environment, and the cottage's character. While some guests mention challenges with the steep stairs and narrow lanes, the overall experience is one of relaxation and enjoyment of the natural surroundings.
Most guests find The Shippon clean and comfortable, with spotless bathrooms and well-kept rooms. However, a few reviews mention issues such as dampness and cobwebs, slightly lowering the score.
The location is highly praised for its tranquility, beautiful views, and proximity to local attractions. The rural setting is ideal for walks and exploring North Wales, though the narrow access lane is noted by some.
Guests find the cottage comfortable, with a cosy wood burner and a peaceful atmosphere. The steep stairs to the mezzanine bedroom are a concern for some, and there are mentions of hard beds and low ceilings.
The Shippon is well-equipped for a relaxing stay, with a wood burner and functional kitchen. However, some guests report issues with heating, a lack of television or radio for a period, and the need for maintenance on items like frying pans.
While the hosts are frequently mentioned as welcoming and helpful, there are no specific references to gifts or special thoughtful touches provided by the hosts in the reviews. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.
A delightful 18th century detached barn nestling within a three acre rural setting in the Conwy Valley. A wonderful property, The Shippon has been beautifully converted and retains many features such as exposed beams and a charming mezzanine bedroom. Outside, the property has a pretty sitting area. It is surrounded by fields with lovely views, and is exceptionally tranquil. The Shippon offers cosy and comfortable accommodation, furnished and decorated to a high standard. The whole area is a paradise for climbers, walkers, cyclists and horseriders alike - the Snowdonia National Park is within easy riding distance, and summer stabling is available. Conwy is a true medieval gem with its magnificent castle, splendid town walks, picturesque harbour and links golf course. An ideal location for a relaxing break any time of the year.
Conwy is an historic town and has been declared a World Heritage Site in recognition of its architecture and other links with the past. The town is most renowned for its medieval castle and town walls that are almost complete, both of which offer fantastic views of Snowdonia and the estuary of the River Conwy. Today Conwy is a bustling town that caters for both tourists and the local community. Ancient buildings sit comfortably among more recent properties and there is an abundance of places to visit. Top of the list is the Castle, but there are many more, including Plas Mawr, an architectural gem and said to be the finest surviving Elizabethan townhouse to be found anywhere in Britain. Towards the quayside you will find Aberconwy House a 14th Century merchant's house believed to be the oldest townhouse in Wales. It has been carefully restored to reflect the daily life of its residents over time. On the quayside you may enter the smallest house in Britain or visit the Aquarium and Conwy mussel museum. Take a boat trip on the river and see the Great Orme, or sail upriver to see the full beauty of the Conwy Estuary and the Conwy Valley.

The whole stay was outstanding from the 1st day to the last day. The accommodation was clean and cosy, the wood burner was fantastic especially in the cold December days. We enjoyed it so much we booked again for same time over Christmas and new year in 2026.

Cosy and comfortable. Good facilities. Really nice hosts, came to see us on the first night to see if everything was ok and then left us alone to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Great little enclosed field for the dogs who loved it! Will be back when we can! Thank you! Jo, Steve, Freya & Mabel
