About this property

South Lodge dates back to the 1750's and was formerly one of the gatehouses at the bottom of the mile-long drive to Cors y Gedol Hall. This wonderful detached cottage is situated on the outskirts of the North Wales village of Dyffryn Ardudwy, and enjoys a lovely southerly aspect to the front with distant sea views. Well-appointed throughout to provide a cosy and comfortable feel, South Lodge is the perfect place for a family getaway to this beautiful part of the Snowdonia National Park. The cottage offers spacious, homely holiday accommodation and has a wealth of character, lovingly renovated and maintained over the years by the present owners. It offers an extremely warm Welsh welcome; the charm is in abundance, starting with the sitting room which has plenty of comfortable seating and boasts a lovely little woodburning stove, extending through to the conservatory. The kitchen is well-appointed with plenty of work surfaces and cupboards, the dining room is well-proportioned and is a lovely place to sit as a family and enjoy a late supper or a more leisurely breakfast before setting out on a day’s adventure. The addition of a second woodburning stove makes this the perfect place to sit and relax with your feet up, enjoying a good book, while the children play in the garden before bedtime. There is a ground floor cloakroom for your convenience, with the main family shower room located on the first floor. Three bedrooms, all individually styled, are arranged on the first floor, with the two main bedrooms enjoying distant sea views and the master bedroom boasting a super king-size electric adjustable bed. These beds provide the equivalent couple's sleeping space of a standard super king-size mattress, but with one big difference: each sleeper has their own long single mattress, fully adjustable to ensure a good night's sleep. Outside, to the side of the property, is a paved patio area with picnic table and to the front there is a large enclosed garden with mature shrubs and borders, and a large oak offering a lovely shaded spot. The garden is a great place for the children to play. The village of Dyffryn Ardudwy has two pubs, a cafe, a garage, shop and local butchers and also a Post Office for sending a post card. All within easy reach and just a short drive away, you will find golden beaches and sand dunes that stretch for miles along this stunning coastline. There are some lovely walks from the cottage and it is in an excellent location for a seaside holiday, close to miles of beautiful sandy beaches offering wonderful water sports, as well as cycling, walking, fishing and golf. Also close by is Harlech, with its majestic 13th century castle, now a World Heritage Site and the most impressive of all the castles built in North Wales by Edward I. A little further are the full delights of the Snowdonia National Park. South Lodge is wonderful for a get away-from-it-all break and an ideal base to explore this part of North Wales and the Snowdonia National Park any time of year.

Dyffryn Ardudwy is a quiet village nestled between The Rhinogs, which is part of the Snowdonia Mountains. There are a number of prehistoric cromlechs in and around the village, and they are some of the earliest tombs erected on these islands. Dating from around 4000 BC, the cairn at Dyffryn Ardudwy has two separate burial chambers. There is the famous Royal St David's golf course, which also has some excellent restaurants on site.
