What our customers say about their holidays
Gaynor - Verified booking
We had a lovely week in Ploony Cottage, but the awful track up to the cottage discouraged us from driving on it too often.
We brought most of our food with us, so only visited Knighton on two occasions for fresh milk, etc. The cottage was comfortable, with a large kitchen/diner and cosy sitting room. Kitchen was well stocked, with a few exceptions. We couldnât work out the heating controls, which meant we werenât warm enough on rainy/cold days; when it did work, it warmed up the cottage very quickly. The electricity went off one morning, which meant no Wifi and with no mobile signal anywhere - we were isolated. We drove down the lane trying to get a signal but luckily saw a local farmer, who was able to contact the owner; he came out within an hour and located/fixed the problem - caused by a leaky washing up bowl. Without the farmerâs help weâre not sure what we would have done. The garden, with the small stream, was ideal for the dogs, although they needed to be watched when a flock of sheep came down the lane and occupied the adjoining field. Two large bedrooms and one small bedroom, but only one wardrobe in one of the bedrooms, wasnât ideal. A second toilet would have been advantageous. We were surprised to read that we needed to clean before leaving and strip the beds, especially when we had to vacate by 10.00 am. Weâve never come across this before, and whilst weâve always left a holiday home as clean and tidy as possible, weâve never been told that a bond of £150 would be withheld.

We were a family of 4 adults and 2 children ( 4 year old and a 10 month old) having a two week break at the end of October - beginning of November.
The property was perfect for us and we loved it. The converted old stone mill was spacious: with three bedrooms and upstairs toilet; a large family farmhouse style well equipped kitchen; a cute inglenook for escaping to for a quiet moment; best of all was the well furnished, very spacious hall-like sitting room. Here, the room was divided into TV/fireplace area, the other end provided board-games, shelved books/DVD selection, playpen and giant doll-house and gorgeous rocking horse with more seating. The hosts really made a great effort in providing amusements for children as well as adults. This was particularly important for the time of the year of our visit with the very changeable weather conditions. Unfortunatly the outside areas - French doors to the table and chairs in the garden was not used due to weather - but I'm sure lovely in summer and springtime. The downstairs toilet/bathroom/shower/laundry area was well appointed and the laundry dryer and washing machine well used. Heating and water etc. worked well and there was plenty of firewood provided for fire-making in the evenings. Terry and Diane ( the hosts) were in residence next door and helpful and friendly for all queries and informative on the history of the buildings. If the opportunity arises for us in the future we would certainly hire Felin Iago again and would also recommend this Sykes Cottage.

The fenced garden is only secure for medium /large dogs, it isnât truly dog friendly as they are not free to roam the house either.
The step into the house should be wider to allow for the collection of water on rainy days,I would recommend the same for the area of hot tub which Sally slid backwards on landing on her back and the stepping arrangemt up into the garden was equally hazardous. The image on line had cushions on the kitchen chairs and the day bed upstairs which were not there when we arrived, we had to wash the crockery ,cutlery and glasses before using them, there was food on the breadboard which we left untouched. This affected how comfortable we felt and affected us from the start. There was a general lack of care; the stone wall in the bathroom needed a good clean, the silicone around the shower area needed renewing. The smaller front bedroom had webs and a swarm of midges considering we only got inside around 4:30 due to the change over policy. It should also be pointed out that this is not a secluded position as the barn is a holiday let and there are signs for more lodges off the drive the photos are disingenuous. There was an infestation of flies around the downstairs area which we spent a lot of time hoovering up and using fly tape, it was really bad, we couldnât beat them, no idea how they were getting in.All in all this was a disappointing property and vastly over priced. The property could do with a dish washer too.

The is property was set in a beautiful location.
Very remote but there were a couple of other cottages behind it so you aren't completely alone. There is a gorgeous little stream running through the garden and birds galore singing in the garden. The views from the garden I could have looked at all day. It has a very relaxing feel. The property itself was spacious and clean if quite basic in facilities. The bedding was lovely and soft and the bed comfy so we slept really well during our stay. Only one small towel provided per guest which would have been fine but due to the hot tub it would have been nice to have a spare available. There is no signal at the property so unless your phone has Internet calling then contacting to report issues might be a challenge. I am on O2 but my husband on EE did get some signal in the garden. Also worth noting that no soft furnishings at the property such as pillows or throws. I love to cuddle up at night under a blanket or sit out with a blanket to stave off the chill. Would need to take my own next time along with spare towels. They also did not provide any free tea, coffee, milk etc but there was a bottle of red wine so it depends on your priorities! Overall it was a lovely stay in a beautiful location. Would definitely visit again.

This cottage exceeded all expectations and we had a wonderful holiday.
We were 5 adults with 2 lively dogs and it was perfect. The cottage was located about 3/4 mile down a farm track at the end of a beautiful valley. This cottage is a traditional stone farm house with flag stone floor and rustic features. There are also 3 wooden lodges nearby (but still private) which I think are owned by the same owner. All look lovely too. What made our holiday was that we were treated to amazing weather and spent most of our time outside, The garden has a patio with furniture, a hot tub, a stream and plenty of lawn. There is a flat section where children could play. The gate opens straight into fields which we could walk the dogs in (so long as sheep are not in the field). The garden is dog secure which was really useful for us. We spent the week doing local walks and visiting Hay-on-Wye and Ludlow which were beautiful. Unfortunately, the pub in Bleddfa has closed but we did walk to the Greyhound Inn in Llangunllo which was a lovely walk (2 1/2 miles) and a nice pub with a garden. The Horse and Jockey in Knighton has a nice courtyard area and an old characterful interior. All in all it was just what we needed and we hope to return, although, I doubt we'll be so lucky weather the weather again.
