About this property

A fantastic holiday awaits you at Cosmos Cottage; a semi-detached townhouse right in the centre of Foxford in County Mayo, this lovely dwelling is perfect for a small family or group of friends wanting to escape to the scenic west coast of Ireland. Drive through the thriving town to find the property on a residential street, in the middle of a leisure centre, playground and in walking distance to the River Moy. Enter the open-plan living area, find a kitchen, dining seating and a sitting room, beautifully decorated with welcoming fixtures for a week of relaxation. Use the kitchen space to throw together a quick family breakfast before heading out for an exciting day ahead, using the handy amenities which offer everything you may need for a self-catered stay.

Tuck in to all of your home-cooked meals in the family dining area, where a circular table lies for sociable dinner parties over a bottle of wine before travelling over to the plush sofa, spending an evening curled up in front of the toasty electric fire as the TV provides entertainment for the night. Also on the ground-floor is a handy cloakroom if your sore legs can't make it up the stairs after a day of rambling up hills and mountains. When it's time for bed, take your pick between two gorgeous double rooms, both fitted with luxury en-suite shower rooms where you can settle before bed and prepare for the day ahead.

Let the fresh air wake you up first thing in the morning as you sit out in the courtyard, found through patio doors from the living area, delighting in a refreshing glass of orange juice whilst planning your exciting adventure for the day. The cottage is based right in the town centre where you can visit a selection of local pubs to sample a traditional Irish Guinness, as well as handy convenient store for all your essentials, and if you make your way across the river to the neighbouring village of Belass, you'll find even more shops, bars, and waterside restaurants along the scenic River Moy.

Just around the corner is the town's famous Foxford Woollen Mills Interpretative Centre, with a guided tour, craft shop and restaurant. Spend a day exploring the large areas of outdoor adventure and activities between the Ox and Nephin Mountains, here you can take your pick between a variety of easy to hard walking trails, cycling routes, and mountain biking, including the 53-mile long Foxford Way, a picturesque route taking you through historic sites, riverbanks and amazing landscapes. Visit Ballina, a quaint town steeped in history where you'll discover the ruins of Moyne Abbey, Muredach's Cathedral and the 15th century Rosserk Friary.

Alternatively, you can travel to Castlebar and take part in a host of adventurous activities such as swimming, golf, tennis, bowling, and horse-riding, ending your day with a relaxing drive over to Westport, a Georgian town with scenic views and spots to take in the beautiful surroundings. Foxford holds a train station with easy links to Dublin and Ballina as well as a bus service which can take you over to Galway and Claremorris. We were allocated another property about a mile distant from where we expected. The location of this alternative property was in a less acceptable neighborhood. Had we know that this property only was available when we booked Cosmos we would not have proceeded. We feel the alternate property could not have been advertised on Sykes. We also had to wait a long time to collect the key when we arrived.
