What our customers say about their holidays

  • Steven - Verified booking

I have around 6+ Sykes holidays each year and never rate them no matter how good or disappointed I might be, but most are 4 or 5 stars.

However, 2 Ocean View is the worst booking I’ve experienced, and is not worthy of 1 star. After our first look around we left the property and cancelled our holiday , it was that bad. We arrived a couple of hours early and let ourselves in to an extremely cold and fusty smelling house. It was obvious it had been empty for a while. The outside furniture had been dumped in the corner of the living room and the was smeared mastic around the patio doors trying to hide gaps that where still visible. Upon walking into the bedroom towels and flannels were laid out in the usual manner, but a flannel had brown smears all over it. Pulling the bedcovers back revealed hairs on the sheets which were also not made up – probably not even washed. In the en-suite there were half used toiletries either left by the previous occupier or by the owners themselves. I suspect the latter as there are personal photos of a family hung from the wall. There was a note on a rather neglected looking boiler stating not to touch it as heating was controlled remotely, so if you’re looking to turn up the heat when your cold you cant! We were advised because we were early that the cleaner MIGHT turn up, however to get that place to an acceptable standard in a couple of hours would not be possible, my partner runs a cleaning company so she would know better than most.

The cottage while dog friendly inside did not have a gate and were using bins to keep dogs in and could easily jump over them or get out between the wheels: The house while it provided everything and good location it needed windows cleaned badly and couches were not comfortable and the mattresses needed replacing on beds the springs are coming through: car parking is not good as it’s hit and miss and if your bringing luggage dogs or if you had children you have to park on double lines to get near the door:there is a lawn which could be used to make a car space and still have garden space: The slugs come in under the door at night as the back door has a space and they get in The washing machine door wouldn’t open and although l rang the owner they were to get the door fixed they didn’t and l didn’t get a call back or any update and still didn’t:had to leave the washing in it when we left While the house is a fine house it’s tired and needs a revamp and better communication:The photo advertising it is a very old one

    Great location.

Across the road from Curracloe Hotel, 5min walk to village and 5-10min drive to beach. Spacious back garden which is great if you have a dog. Safe to let her roam around on her own. However we came across some issues with ceanliness. On arrival, dirty cups were found in the press and press with food wasnt wiped out, food left there from previous guests. Table cloth not wiped down, crumbs all over it. Unsanitary products left behind in bathroom and enuite from previous guests - razors, face cloths, loofah. The table and chairs outside were absolutely filthy. We spent about 1hr cleaning them before we could sit outside. House is outdated. Could do with a bit of refurbishment. Window blinds not great for keeping light out and window on landing has no blind.Very bright at 4/5am - very hard to sleep with light coming in. We had to put up black sacks to try make it darker. Overall we enjoyed our stay due to its central location, but in terms of holiday homes, this is the worst standard we've stayed in to date.

I am a university scientist from England and was doing a project on ivy bees in the area and stayed on my own in River Glen for one week in October 2022 as the local Curracloe Hotel was full up for one critical night.

It all worked very well and I would recommend the house and set up to others. Everything was simple and worked and I had good contact by phone and text with the owner to get the key etc. It is a modern house in a small but very nice estate of detached houses, so anyone wanting a traditional cottage or character house would need to look elsewhere. The house has a bathroom, en suite and a downstairs toilet and a spacious kitchen diner and would work for up to 5 or 6 people, with 2 large bedrooms and one small bedroom each with 2 beds or a double bed. There is off road parking. The large amount of space and large garden with a slide was rather wasted on me. It is in a good location in the centre of Curracloe village which has a post office, shop, pub and hotel and is 2 miles form beaches and about 5 miles to Wexford town. Would work for a family with a few kids on a seaside trip or almost any trip.

Just spent a week staying at Bluebell Cottage and have to say it's one of the most homely comfy places I've ever rented.

Everything about the place was absolutely perfect, the attention to detail in every room to make your stay comfortable was second to none. We arrived to meet Finbarr & Geraldine there with a blazing fire going for us and a plate of freshly home baked delicious scones. Fridge & cupboards had enough stock to get us settled in and the sitting room was stocked up with heaps of firewood & coal. Everything in the cottage was in perfect working order and the entire place was immaculate clean. Beautiful lay out of rooms , perfect place for families or couples with excellent space to accommodate. I would highly recommend this holiday home~away~from~home cottage, beautiful location only a few mins walk from Spanish Point beach and a short drive from Miltown Malbay, Quilty & Tue White Strand. We had a lovely relaxing week staying at Bluebell and I will definitely be booking in again . Mandy ✨
