The great Kerry dramatist and literary giant John B Keane's pub, now run by his son Billy,on the main street, is a must visit for all guests,where impromptu Drama sessions occur there occasionally. St.John's Theatre in the town square is also well worth a visit. Whilst here, be sure to visit Listowel Town Park off the Bridge Road with a fine children's playground attached and take a stroll along the bubbling River Feale, before immersing yourself in the local history by visiting Kerry Writers Museum, Listowel Castle and Lartigue Monorail and Museum, offering something for all ages and tastes. As well as a plethora of countryside walks within the area, if you are feeling adventurous, travel slightly further afield to Crag Cave, a 350-metre limestone cave transformed into a family attraction or to Tralee Bay Wetlands Eco & Activity Park for some promised family-fun.
Recommended walks include the cliff walk in nearby Ballybunion and whilst there enjoy a game of golf at the world Famous Ballybunion Golf Club. Banna and Ballyheigue Beaches are also well worth a visit or head to Glin Heritage viewpoint for some breath-taking views. Sliabh Cahill is a wonderful retreat that can be enjoyed all year around.
Listowel is a market town of Listowel, designated as a Heritage Town of Ireland, which lies at the side of the River Feale in the beautiful north of County Kerry. The town is considered to be the literary capital of Ireland and sees authors and playwrights from around the world descending upon the town each June. Within the town, you will also find a plethora of brightly painted buildings, home to many welcoming shops and pubs, which play traditional Irish music.
