About this property

Resting on the outskirts of Matlock, a popular town upon the cusp of the Peak District National Park is 1 Barley Cottage, a fabulous, three-bedroom home. Enjoying rural views and a wonderful position near a hub of amenities and attractions, 1 Barley Cottage offers an inviting and stylish base for a family of six and their two furry companions. Park up off-road before travelling through the front garden, and into the home. Travel through the hallway to reach the well-equipped kitchen/diner, where you'll find all the essentials to rustle up delicious meals. Formal dining can take place in the lovely dining room, with enough space for all guests, whilst an alfresco affair can also be enjoyed upon the multi-level patio, with breath-taking vistas in the backdrop. Unwind and catch up with your favourite programmes in the sitting room, complete with a rustling woodburning stove and a plush corner sofa, whilst adorned with exposed brickwork and lofty bi-fold doors. As day turns into night, catch some rest from one of the three well-appointed bedrooms on offer, including a double, and a twin on the first floor, and a spacious double on the second floor, with a private en-suite, and a lovely viewing point over Derbyshire's rolling hills. Awaken to an indulgent soak in the free-standing bath, or a refreshing shower in the walk-in shower, before preparing to explore the town on foot. You'll arrive to a hub of shops and eateries to take advantage of, set near River Derwent, along with the stunning backdrop of Lumsdale Waterfall and the charming landmark of Matlock Derwent Bridge. Continue to Matlock Bath to visit the local aquarium, tour the Peak District Mining Museum, enjoy a fun-filled day out for all of the family at Gulliver's Kingdom, board the cable car to reach Abraham Hills, or opt for an underground tour of The Great Masson Cavern. Travel towards Bakewell, stopping off at the magnificent Haddon Hall, before enjoying an afternoon of heritage at the Bakewell Old House Museum and Bakewell Bridge. Take to the countryside with 1 Barley Cottage as your base.

Since the late 17th-century construction of the resort, Matlock and Matlock Bath, two prominent Peak District towns, have drawn tourists to the region. The Matlocks, which are located in the lovely, wooded gorge of the River Derwent, provide a variety of stores, bars, and eateries in addition to a number of attractions like Gulliver's Kingdom and the Peak District Mining Museum. From the cable car that transports guests to the Heights of Abraham, a fantastic location for the whole family with its showcaves, nature walk, water gardens, and Owl Maze, tourists may take in magnificent views of the gorge. The High Peak Cycle Trail begins south of the town, while the National Tramway Museum at Crich is only a short drive away.

The cottage is spacious, comfortable and very clean. We enjoyed local dog friendly walks from the cottage, to High Tor and the Lumsdale waterfalls. We visited easy to reach places such as Bakewell, the Monsal Trail and the 9 ladies stone circle. Overall a very good holiday, thank you.

Particularly liked the night lights on the stairwells and the views from the rear garden over the hills. Two minor comments, we like to use large bath towels and pint sized glasses to consume 'refreshments'.

We loved our stay and would highly recommend to friends and family.
