Catmint Cottage receives high praise for its cosy, homely atmosphere, spacious rooms, and peaceful location ideal for exploring the Peak District. Guests particularly enjoyed the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and the beautiful meadow and stream opposite, which is perfect for dogs and outdoor relaxation. The welcome packs were a much-appreciated touch, though not guaranteed. While most found the cottage clean and well-maintained, a few noted minor maintenance and cleanliness issues. The proximity to local pubs and attractions adds to its appeal, making it a popular choice for families and groups seeking a relaxing countryside break.
Most guests found the cottage clean, tidy, and comfortable, with several specifically mentioning cleanliness. However, a small number of reviews highlighted issues such as dog hair, mucky floors, and stained mattress protectors, indicating occasional lapses. Overall, cleanliness is generally good but with some room for improvement.
The location is frequently praised as peaceful, beautiful, and ideal for exploring the Peak District, with easy access to Matlock, Bakewell, and local attractions. The meadow and stream opposite are a highlight, and proximity to good pubs is noted. Some mention road noise, but this does not detract significantly from the overall positive impression.
Guests consistently describe the cottage as cosy, warm, and comfortable, with spacious rooms and comfy beds. The heating system is effective, and the cottage remains toasty even in cold weather. Minor comments about duvet size and warmth were noted but did not significantly impact overall comfort.
The cottage is well-equipped, with a good range of kitchen crockery and amenities. Facilities such as private parking, a large garden, and board games are appreciated. Some maintenance issues were mentioned, including a leaking shower, dated bathrooms, and minor wear and tear, but these were generally outweighed by positive feedback.
Guests frequently mention thoughtful touches such as welcome packs with snacks, wine, and even dog treats. These gestures are highly appreciated, though it should be noted that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

The parish of Dethick, Lea and Holloway is steeped in history and Lea is also recorded in the Domesday Book as Lede; the famous Florence Nightingale spent much of her early life at Lea Hurst. The peaceful village of Lea offers visitors friendly pubs, tea rooms, restaurants and the famous John Smedley factory. Rural Derbyshire is a real treasure trove offering everything for the visitor including country houses, historic halls, medieval ruins, heritage railways, cycleways, beautiful unspoilt countryside and pretty villages. One of the closest attractions to Lea Hall is the Heights of Abraham. Built on the site of historic lead mining, the hilltop park is approached by cable car which rises up and offers some spectacular views of the Derwent Valley and surrounding Peak District. Visitors can tour the network of caverns and passageways left behind and explore the 60 acres of woodland hillside and buy souvenirs at the gift shop. Alternatively, for those who appreciate stately homes and gardens, magnificent Chatsworth House is highly recommended, as well as Haddon Hall and Lyme Park, all of which have been film or TV locations over the years.

We had a fantastic time at the Catmint Cottage. Our 2nd time in Lea and we just love the area. The cottage is clean and the beds are really comfy. The meadow across the road was a godsend as the back garden area is quite small, our dog loved it and thought it was his own from time to time. The neighbours were very friendly and very chatty, thank you for making us feel welcome. Also thank you for the welcoming gift. We hope to return one day. Ps the jug and glass serve excellent food and is just a short walk away.
