Ravenglass is situated on the coast and is the next stop northwards on the train from Bootle station and the steam railway station is ajdacent to the 'real' station, making it easily accessible; there is also The Ratty pub at Ravenglass, serving up local ale inside and in the beer garden.
Millom is a must visit for wildlife lovers to stop at a variety of birdlife at RSPB Hodbarrow, followed by a picnic on the sandy beach and a visit to Millom Heritage & Arts Centre. We were comfortable, our dogs were comfortable the place is very homely. Although trains ran by periodically it still remained a peaceful place to stay. Train ride from the door to Whitehaven......watching the sun go down on the local beach with a cheese and biscuit supper......a trip to Wasdale Water, beautiful scenery on the way plus llamas by the lake! Plenty to do to fill your holiday......but all the home comforts if you just want to chill at the cottage with a garden area that our dogs were relaxed and safe......so all boxes ticked! Thank you
Leslie
Station Cottage is one of the very best Sykes Cottages ( dog friendly) that we have stayed in. Top marks Steve and Sonia we fell in love. We would thoroughly recommend a stay here for anyone visiting this area of The Lake District.

I so we had to go out and find some emailed the owner, her reply was sorry about that! The cottage was not that clean there was toothpaste around the spout of the tap in the bathroom, mould underneath the non slip mat in the bath! Pillows cheap! There is obviously an ongoing problem with the joint septic tank! The neighbours appeared in the garden on Thursday evening and started removing the inspection chamber lid, and tried to clear it with rods. They did not introduce themselves! My husband went to speak to them and the lady was very animated Saying her house was completely backed up, it was her one day off and the last thing she needed was this blah blah. Said that there had never been a problem with the tank until it became a holiday home ! The whole incident made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome!! We had received an email from the owners prior to our arrival re the tank ! We have had homes ourselves with septic tanks and are well aware of how they work and what can do down, we definitely did not put anything down that we shouldnât have but weâre made to feel it was our fault! We were leaving on the Friday due to work commitments, but would not have stayed after this!
