Guests say

Bridge House is a characterful, cosy cottage in the picturesque village of Threlkeld, offering excellent access to local walks, stunning views, and convenient transport links. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable living areas, and proximity to pubs and cafes. While the cottage’s traditional charm is a highlight, some areas, particularly the bathroom and upstairs, would benefit from modernisation and deeper cleaning. Overall, it provides a welcoming base for exploring the Lake District, especially for those seeking a homely atmosphere and great location.

Several guests found the cottage clean and well-prepared, but others reported issues such as dust, stained mattresses, and insufficient deep cleaning, particularly in the bathroom and bedrooms. Experiences varied, with some guests noting spotless conditions and others disappointed by cleanliness standards.

The location is highly praised, with guests loving the village setting, beautiful views, and easy access to walks, bus routes, and local amenities. Proximity to Blencathra and Keswick is a particular highlight.

Guests enjoyed the cosy atmosphere, comfortable living room, and warm bedding. However, some found the beds uncomfortable and the upstairs floors uneven, with the twin room noted as being cold. The cottage’s traditional features add charm but may not suit everyone.

The kitchen is generally well-equipped and modern, but the bathroom is frequently described as dated and in need of refurbishment. Heating is adequate but can be tricky to manage. Some maintenance issues, such as broken heater controls and lack of a doormat, were mentioned.

Guests appreciated thoughtful touches like a ready-to-light fireplace and a folded tissue flower on the toilet roll. However, such gestures are not guaranteed for every stay.

A great base, but sadly joists and floor boards need replacing upstairs. The bathroom is definitely desperate to be done it is not.good No hot water in the beginning due to the water tank not switched on by the 2nd day we found where it is and we were able to have hot water.Sleep however is something that is the 1st thing to be done new mattresses are needed and walls painted due to dirty marks in every room and wall.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Bridge House in Threlkeld. We were slightly worried before arriving because of a previous review, but any concerns disappeared as soon as we got there. The property exceeded our expectations. We were very pleased with how clean and tidy everything was. The house felt well prepared for guests and had all the essentials ready, including washing up liquid and useful kitchen equipment. A lovely touch was the toilet roll decorated with a tissue folded into a flower. The fireplace was also set up perfectly, so all we had to do was light a match to get a roaring fire going. Every room, including the kitchen, bedrooms, and bathroom, was spotless and well organised. The kitchen was well equipped with enough pots, pans, plates, bowls, and cups for our four night stay. The heating system was a little tricky at first, but it was clearly explained in the customer handbook, so we figured it out easily. There was also a good supply of coal available for us to use, which was very helpful. The location is excellent. The cottage is about a 30 second to 1 minute walk from the bus stops, with easy connections to Keswick, around 12 minutes away, and Penrith, about 25 minutes away. It is also very close to the Threlkeld Coffee Shop, which was a nice bonus. One of the main reasons we chose this cottage was its proximity to Blencathra. Several popular routes, including Gategill Fell and Halls Fell Ridge, are only about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the cottage, making it ideal for hiking.Overall, this was a comfortable and convenient place to stay, and we would happily return.

This is the second Christmas we have stayed at Bridge House. The difference from last year to this year was day and night.Upon arrival at the cottage, we found the living room carpets barely hoovered (we did find this out - a Henry hoover but no hoover attachment to hoover the carpet) Glass all over the kitchen floor - which our daughter and myself stood on, stains all down the kitchen cupboards and the fridge smelled. The plates and glasses were heavily stained. Oven was full of crumbs. The bathroom had just had a ‘wipe over’. The floor was dirty with fluff and hair. The bedrooms were dusty and mouldy round the windows. The mattress’s were heavily stained. Carpets were not hoovered in the bedrooms. We moved a bed so our daughter could sleep against the wall and the rubbish behind the bed was unreal.6 sticks and half a box of firefighters were left for a week long Christmas stay - this fire was to heat the whole house. We had already booked to stay Christmas 2026 - but have since changed the accommodation.Very disappointed as we thought we had found our place to spend Christmas. The place needs a full decorate and a very deep clean.
