Guests say

Riverside is a spacious, beautifully presented cottage in a stunning lakeside location near Coniston. Guests consistently praise its immaculate interiors, comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchen, and extensive gardens leading to a private jetty. The property is ideal for families, dog owners, and those seeking tranquillity with direct lake access. While a few minor maintenance and amenity issues are noted, the overwhelming feedback is highly positive, with many guests eager to return and recommending it to others.

The majority of reviews highlight the property as spotlessly clean and well presented, with only rare mentions of worn towels or minor issues. Cleanliness is consistently praised throughout.

The location is universally described as stunning, peaceful, and perfect for lake access, walks, and exploring the Lake District. The private garden and jetty are standout features.

Guests frequently mention comfortable beds, spacious rooms, and a homely atmosphere. A few note minor issues with mattresses or temperature, but overall comfort is rated very highly.

Facilities are praised for being extensive and well-equipped, including the kitchen, bathrooms, and outdoor spaces. Some guests mention minor maintenance issues (e.g., jetty repairs, towel quality, missing BBQ), but these do not detract significantly from the overall experience.

Some guests mention thoughtful touches such as welcome packs with bread, milk, and tea, but these are not guaranteed for every stay. A few reviews note a lack of consumables or toiletries, suggesting some inconsistency in this area.

About this property

Beautifully appointed, Riverside Cottage is a rare gem set in breathtaking surroundings overlooking Torver Beck, with its own pedestrian bridge leading to a private jetty and beach. The detached house, gardens and surroundings are an absolute delight and provide a heady mix of luxury and beauty. All three bedrooms have super king-size beds, two of which can be cleverly converted into two single beds on request, and with two en-suites and a house bathroom, queues are a thing of the past! Outside there is a choice of peaceful patios, including a charming covered seating area adorned with fairy lights. What is really magical about Riverside Cottage is it has its very own pedestrian bridge which crosses Torver Beck to an enormous expanse of green leading to Coniston Water.

You can while away the hours in the summer house, or dangle your feet over the water on the private jetty. In such stunning surroundings, it is very easy to see how our Lakeland poets were so inspired! Just over a mile away is a footpath leading to The Old Man of Coniston which at 2635 feet is not quite a Munro, but deserves its place in the great Cumbrian fells. On a fine day the views from the top are so intoxicating they should be experienced by everyone. Arthur Ransome based his book ‘Swallows and Amazons’ on Coniston Water, and it is fun trying to discover the locations featured in the book.

There is boat hire available, as well as sailing courses and the steam yacht Gondola, which offers an opulent sail with a difference. Riverside Cottage is addictive and one visit will not be enough.

Nestling at the head of Coniston Water, the pretty village of Coniston is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the Lake District National Park and makes a superb base for touring, with Hawkshead, Ambleside and Windermere just a short drive away. Superb walking, mountain biking and climbing is available locally on Coniston Old Man and Wetherlam, and the lovely woodland trails at Grizedale Forest. For water sports enthusiasts the quiet lake is ideal for dinghy sailing and canoeing, whilst the less active can enjoy a leisure cruise on the beautiful steam yacht 'Gondola'.

It felt so homely, big, light and airy. We loved it and would definitely go back. The position is amazing with across to the lake. AMAZING

Everything you could possibly need is provided. The beds were very comfortable and the three bathrooms ideal for three couples and a baby. Immaculately clean. The outside seating areas are lovely and having the huge garden and access to the shoreline was a delight. Can do so much in this area, walks from the door, sailing and canoeing from the shore or just chilling in this beautiful house. The Lake District villages are short drives away for browsing, teas, coffees and restocking etc. Definitely going back. ps. We had the privilege of seeing an osprey successfully fishing from the shore one evening. Amazing

We loved the field leading to the lake and used our kayak a few times. Lovely walks in the countryside around the property.
