Coniston is well known for The Old Man of Coniston, which rises majestically from behind the village house. This fell is part of the Furness Fells and rises to an impressive 2,634 feet. As a result, this charming village is well-loved by walkers and climbers alike, and makes a great stop for a group break.

From Coniston you can also explore Tilberthwaite Slate quarries. These quarries have not been used decades and nature has reclaimed them; covering them is woodland and vegetation. A popular place with climbers and divers, there are also tracks suited to walking and mountain biking. Big Cottages has a variety of large properties for you to explore this stunning area from.
