Visit England 3 Star.. With glorious views of the Coniston Hills and local fell ranges, Hayrake is in an ideal location, on the fringes of the village with all amenities close to hand. Built of Lakeland stone, the cottage is very characterful, with cosy rooms, exposed beams and that all important open fire, Hayrake is also home to other features that you’d expect from such an old property, including the odd squeaky floorboard and uneven floor! Emphasis is more on creating a homely atmosphere than frills and fanciness, however Hayrake is very comfortable and offers everything for the holidaymaker. On three floors, the views get better the higher you go so you may have to toss a coin to decide who will have the top room.

    The cottage is perfectly pleasant, clean and well equipped. The reason for the low score is the presentation. When we arrived it felt very unwelcoming; no welcome messages or welcome pack, not even tea bags and salt & pepper, cooking oil etc. no logs in the basket. We had to hunt around for the folder on how things work, it was under a pile of leaflets & junk, it should have been somewhere prominent. The folder itself was unwelcoming and unhelpful. These are tiny things that would cost nothing to sort out & make a huge difference to people’s holidays. I’ve never used Hoeseasons before. If this is the service level, I won’t be returning..

    Not the cleanest of accommodation and the parking is a bit tight. However, it is very warm, comfy and cozy. Kitchen well stocked with utensils and equipment. Comfy beds. Seating is now a comfy leather 3 piece suit. Good heating, hot water, shower and bath. Nice open fire, however no wood provided and no details on where to get any. For info, the petrol station round the corner sells it. 5 min walk into town. All in all, I would recommend it and stay there again
