Guests consistently praise its homely feel, comfortable beds, and practical amenities, making it ideal for families and walkers alike. The location is quiet yet convenient for exploring the Lake District. Some minor issues were noted, such as a steep driveway, occasional maintenance needs, and rare cleanliness lapses, but these did not detract from the overall positive experience. Many guests are repeat visitors, highlighting the property's enduring appeal.

Most guests found the cottage clean and well-presented, with several describing it as spotless. A few mentioned areas for improvement, such as the need for a deeper clean in bathrooms or outdoor spaces, and one report of ants. Overall, cleanliness is a strong point with only minor inconsistencies.

The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, stunning views, and proximity to Ambleside and popular walking routes. Guests appreciate being close to amenities while enjoying a peaceful setting, making it an excellent base for exploring the Lake District.

Guests consistently mention comfortable beds, spacious rooms, and a cosy atmosphere. The cottage is described as a home from home, with warmth and good heating. A few noted a soft mattress in the main bedroom, but overall comfort is rated very highly.

The cottage is well-equipped for self-catering, with ample kitchenware, utility space, and thoughtful touches for walkers and families. Some minor maintenance issues were noted, such as a broken hoover (quickly replaced) and bathrooms needing TLC, but facilities are generally excellent.

Guests appreciated responsive and caring communication from the owner, especially when issues arose. The cottage was nicely decorated for Christmas, and there are local guides and maps provided. While some thoughtful touches are mentioned, gifts are not guaranteed.

,Lovely cottage and in ideal place just outside Ambleside so missing the traffic! We've used this cottage 4 times now and it never disappoints. We did miss small bins in the bedrooms though and there were no extra kitchen bin or dustbin liners as stated.Vegetation was covering the handrail up the front steps and previous renters obviously had dogs and left bags of dog dirt outside on the patio which needed sweeping.Small criticisms and didn't really spoil our holiday.

Another lovely stay at Sheilings. Blessed with glorious weather for the whole week which helps, but in any weather a lovely location with gentle walks on the doorstep around Loughrigg Tarn, Elterwater etc ( or longer walks for those who want them ). Spacious and comfortable accommodation with all you need in the kitchen, good wifi- though very patchy phone signal. Thoroughly recommend

A cottage with all that you will need but there are a few things you need to be aware of when booked. Firstly, is the access. If you have any form of mobility issues then think twice, as there are a number of steps up to the property. I would say the accommodation is clean and has all you will need for your holidays. Unfortunately, the ants were a bit of an issue meaning we couldn't leave food out on the kitchen tops. Great path just up the hill where you can walk all the way through to Ambleside and good access by road. No shops around but we did get a food delivery. I would suggest a cottage which is functional without having the luxury feel.
