This beautiful detached house is set in mature gardens and lies just 2 miles from Ambleside, making it an ideal escape to explore the South Lakes. Situated on the lower slopes of Loughrigg Fell, this picturesque holiday cottage is ideal for couples and families looking for a spacious retreat. The ground floor is bright and spacious thanks to the large windows and open plan layout. The living/dining room has a cosy wood burner and is an ideal space for relaxing in front of the Smart TV. The kitchen is well-equipped. You will also find a large utility room with a washer/dryer. The utility room can be accessed from the patio. Also on the ground floor there is a bathroom with bath and shower over, along with a spacious twin room with quality furnishings. On the first floor there are two bedrooms, one with a super kingsize bed, the other with twin beds. There is also a shower room and toilet upstairs. All the beds have luxury matteresses for that perfect night sleep. To the side of the property there is a lovely patio with garden furniture and stunning views - this area is a real suntrap.
If you like walking or cycling there are some lovely routes around Loughrigg Tarn, Todd Cragg and Elterwater. Or, if you like more of a challenge, you can try the Langdale Pikes and the Fairfield Horseshoe. Locally there is a pub and hotel which provides great food and locally produced ales. For lake lovers, you are only 2½ miles from Lake Windermere with the famous steamers offering pleasure trips to Bowness and lakeside on a regular timetable. For the big kids in the family, you’re not too far from Go Ape at Grizedale Forest, a high rope adventure course for thrillseekers. The towns of Ambleside, Bowness and Windermere are all easily accessible and offer an abundance of restaurants, shops and bars. Lovely cottage. Well equipped and centrally located. However, the cottage was dirty. There was hair and dust on the floors, the shower upstairs was filthy and we had to clean this again ourselves ( specifically around the bottom of the shower screen).

We had a lovely week at Sheilings. There were just the two of us, so we had the whole house to ourselves – it was lovely and spacious. The driveway was a bit of a faff, but that was the only thing that could be seen as a slight drawback. We particularly liked the fact that the front door didn’t open straight into the living room, and that we had a back entrance. It was lovely to be able to leave wet clothes and shoes in the ‘utility room’. The information folder could do with an update, though. For instance, there’s no longer a garden shed, and rubbish is collected on a different day. But those are just minor details.If we ever go back to the Lake District, Sheilings is definitely a place we’d return to.

,Lovely cottage and in ideal place just outside Ambleside so missing the traffic!We've used this cottage 4 times now and it never disappoints.We did miss small bins in the bedrooms though and there were no extra kitchen bin or dustbin liners as stated.Vegetation was covering the handrail up the front steps and previous renters obviously had dogs and left bags of dog dirt outside on the patio which needed sweeping.Small criticisms and didn't really spoil our holiday.
