About this property

Low Longthwaite Farm is located in an enviable position, elevated above spectacular Ullswater.

A large 16th century farmhouse with lake views from almost every room, the residence makes the perfect Lake District retreat for groups of friends and family gatherings.

Step through the front door into a bright and relaxing lounge with cosy wood burning stove and a pretty window seat. Prepare meals in the well equipped farmhouse kitchen and dine together around a spacious oak table in the dining area. A special feature of Low Longthwaite Farm is the cosy snug with sumptuous sofas for relaxing evenings. The ground floor also contains a shower room and utility room. Upstairs there are four beautiful bedrooms; two king size bedrooms with lake views and two twin bedrooms. The first floor contains a superb family bathroom and there is an additional en-suite shower room attached to one of the king size bedrooms.

Enjoy sunny summer evenings in an enclosed garden with views of the lake. Private parking is provided for four cars, making this the perfect retreat for groups of friends. The farm is located in a peaceful rural location for a truly relaxing getaway.

Pooley Bridge is a short drive away at the northern tip of Ullswater with great cafes, pubs and shops to browse. At the southern tip of the lake you’ll find the beautiful village of Glenridding, which is popular with walkers looking to climb the iconic Helvellyn.

An outstanding traditional farmhouse that’s perfect for large celebrations in the heart of the Lake District.

The elevated scattered village of Watermillock runs parallel to the main road alongside Ullswater Lake and is mainly a farming community. Just 2.5 miles away is Pooley Bridge with its array of amenities which sits on the northern shore of the lake in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley originated due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont. Pooley Bridge has many traditional inns and tempting tea rooms, plus the Ullswater Steamers depart from the village, from where a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown can be enjoyed. Glenridding (meaning glen overgrown with bracken) is a small tourist village with a range of local shops, cafes and restaurants. There are numerous walks with breathtaking views nearby, plus a short walk up to Dunmallard Hill reveals fascinating Iron-Age remains, whilst the towns of Penrith and Keswick are within driving distance. Watermillock is an ideal base for a cottage holiday stay in the stunning Lake District.

We will no doubt stay again. It has everything we could wish for and is in a wonderful location. Niggles: (1) The twin bedroom at the top right of the stairs was very cold as the radiator was cold and needed bleeding. No key. ( 2) More door keys would have been more convenient. (3) Knife sharpener worn smooth and needs replacing. (4) Property used to be advertised as sleeping 10 by using sofa bed in snug downstairs. We would like to have had 2 more guests. (5) May I suggest you include Brantwood Country Hotel in Stainton in list of recommended eating out places. It is very nice.

Beds comfortable. But generally house was tired and in our opinion overdue for a serious freshening up. Lounge not big enough, or enough furniture for 8 in it's present configuration. Interesting that a certificate on the wall showed a rating by Visit England dated 2018/19.....think it may struggle in its current condition. The garden was great for children, but caution, there is a very low wall at the bottom with a fair drop on the other side into sheep field. Part of the side wall had collapsed and was left in a dangerous state, more collapsed with one of our little ones nearby! Long grass around the fallen rubble indicated it had been like this for some time. Reported to cleaner, but no response. Left without kettle for 2 days, was told by Sykes that it was owner managed and message left....frustrating commu ication problem here. Paying £2,200 for the week, expected better, and would have thought we qualified for a simple welcome pack! The Lakes was in prime autumnal condition, fells, landscape, lakes, mountain passes etc, lit up by daily autumn sun.....stunning, we were lucky. Views from the garden were lovely. Great week with wider family group.
