Guests say

Dove Tail Barn is a well-regarded holiday rental, praised for its cleanliness, peaceful location, and comfort. Guests have enjoyed the stunning views, cosy atmosphere, and the proximity to local attractions and walks. The property is dog-friendly, though some guests noted the garden isn't fully secure. The owners are mentioned as welcoming, and while some minor maintenance issues were raised, the overall experience is seen as positive.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The majority of guests have reported the property to be impeccably clean, with only a few isolated comments about damp smells in bedding and towels. The consistent mention of cleanliness suggests a high standard maintained by the owners.

The property's location is frequently described as peaceful, with beautiful countryside views and good access to local attractions. Some guests found the roads narrow and the property a bit tricky to find, but the tranquil setting and proximity to walking areas and pubs are highly valued.

Guests have found the barn to be cosy and the bed comfortable, contributing to a restful stay. There were a few comments about the bed being low and some pillows being too flat or hard, but overall, the comfort level is rated highly.

Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and the addition of a hot tub. However, some guests mentioned maintenance issues such as shower leaks and the need for more logs for the fire, which suggests room for improvement in this area.

While guests have expressed appreciation for the property and the owners' hospitality, there is no specific mention of gifts or special thoughtful touches that could be consistently expected by future guests. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score for thoughtfulness.

About this property

This chic and unique couples' hideaway takes the form of a converted Lakeland barn, nestled in rural bliss and overlooking the lush Lyth Valley.

A long driveway leads to the barn, with parking by the log store. Enter via the stylish kitchen, with slate floor, matching slate worktops and everything you'll need for dining in. The lounge / dining room incorporates the barn door, with deep-cushioned furnishings, rug and woodburning stove. The Villeroy & Bosch luxury wet room is on this floor. Upstairs to the romantic double bedroom, with a magnificent Scandinavian king-size bed, sky lights and mood lighting.

Natural Cedar Hot Tub for 2 people. Bathe in a solid cedar tub and enjoy the calming experience whilst taking in stunning views towards Gummers How. The natural aroma of cedar in this tranquil setting is a treat for all nature lovers. The cedar tub is wood fired and takes up to 2 hours to reach bathing temperature. Bags of Kiln dried logs are stored next to the tub at the cost of £10.00 per bag.

The Lyth Valley is to the east of Lake Windermere, overlooked by the famous Lake District walks on Scout Scar and Whitbarrow Scar. The sheltered valley is famous for its damson orchards, with gorgeous white blossom in spring. The landscapes are scattered with country homes and rural Lake District cottages, as well as a choice of several acclaimed Lake District country pubs, such as The Punch Bowl at Crosthwaite, the Black Labrador at Underbarrow, and the Mason's Arms at Strawberry Bank. A romantic walk nearby is the ascent of Gummers How, which offers simply wonderful views of Lake Windermere from the top. The Cartmel Fell tarns walk is also a lovely afternoon's worth, starting at Bowland Bridge's historic church. Away from the busier areas, but still only 20 minutes’ drive from Bowness, you'll find complete tranquillity and relaxation in the lap of luxury.

Underbarrow is a quiet, pretty Lakeland village close to the historic market town of Kendal and within reach of the wonderful Lake Windermere. The village has a pub and is ideally placed for exploring southern Lakeland and the Lake District National Park. Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall, both with fine gardens, are nearby, and Kendal has much to offer in terms of shopping and is quite lively culturally, thanks to the Brewery Arts Centre and the Abbot Hall Art Gallery and Museum, which is widely recognised as one of the best in the region. Also worth a visit is the ruin of Kendal Castle, which was formerly the home of Katherine Parr, and there’s plenty to see and do with Grange-over-Sands, Cartmel, Ulverton, Bowness, Ambleside and even the Yorkshire Dales National Park within driving distance. Underbarrow is a lovely base for exploring the area.

Due to a diversion I think we had to use narrower roads/country lanes which was a bit of a culture shock, but once we got used to it, it wasn’t a problem. The only negative is the long driveway to the property - numerous holes present which could do with being filled as our suspension was definately tested! Cottage facilities are great. It’s great to have a washing machine - could do with an iron (unless there is one hidden away we didn’t notice). Bed is so comfy - a great nights sleep. We didn’t use the hot tub but it is a great addition. Didn’t really meet the owners unfortunately - just didn’t get the opportunity, no-ones fault. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in a cosy, well thought out cottage, with great views. Thank you.

This absolutely didn't spoil our stay in any way but if future guests were looking for complete peace and tranquility this might be worth knowing in advance.

The cottage could really do with a vacuum cleaner particularly when dealing with dog hairs. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back.
